Today I got word that Mello Yello has been discontinued for sale in the state of Michigan so basically whatever is left on the shelves right now is all that there will be.
I was calling around today, beginning with Coca Cola's consumer info line (which is 1-800-438-2653) and they told me that, to their knowledge, Mello Yello itself has not been discontinued as a product (only Diet Mello Yello will cease to be permanently) but they gave me some local numbers to distributors in the area which basically confirmed no more Mello Yello in Michigan for the time being apparently because Coke is pushing the shitty "energy drink" Vault. I even called distributors in Northern Indiana about this and the nearest ones apparently don't even have any in their warehouses.
What to do? What to do? Is this the beginning of the end for Mello Yello, my one and ONLY favorite soda or will Vault fizzle out and Mello Yello will make a comeback (at least in my area anyway)? This happened a few years ago when Coke tried out another shitty drink, Surge. That one failed so Mello Yello was sold once again but again they're trying to eradicate my favorite pop.
Even if Mello Yello was not discontinued nationwide but remained so in my area, it would essentially mean it was gone forever to me since how the hell could I find any? How far would I have to drive to buy some and more importantly, how would I know which stores even carry it????
So I'm asking all of you, as a MAJOR favor to me, even if you don't live in Michigan (or Indiana) or don't even drink Mello Yello, *please* write a letter to Coca Cola with words of support for it, encourage them to keep making it and for god's sake, actually advertise it. In my 31 years, I have never once seen a TV ad for Mello Yello.
Anyway, here is their address:
Industry and Consumer Affairs
Coca Cola Company

PO Box 1734

It would be a big help if you could encourage them to begin to distribute Mello Yello in Michigan again. Even if you don't live here you could say you have friends and relatives there who like the drink and want it back in stores.
Letters, if there are enough of them, can truly make a difference. Please help me on this one. Thank you.

I can solve your problem in three simple words.
Do The Dew.
Do The Dew.
They still make that?
I live in Michigan too...and I haven't seen it around for years. I thought it had gone the way of Crystal Pepsi.
Unfortunately, I don't like Mellow Yello; at least not enough to care if it dies or not.

Whoa-ho.
I fucking loved Surge.
Surge was the ultimate soda. And as for Vault...it's the next best thing. If that goes, I will be fuming.

Does that mean that Cole Trickle won't be driving the Mello Yello car anymore?
I never liked Mt. Dew or Mello Yellow but if I get the time, I'll shoot off a letter.
My all time favorite is Ale-8-one, more commonly known as Ale 8. It's pretty much a Kentucky thing I think. Supposedly it has more caffenine in it than Mt. Dew. I think it does bc when I drink one (or two) I seem to get the whole house clean, laundry done, dishes, and a three course meal.
;)

Edit: actually checking that site, there is not more caffenine in Ale 8 than Mt. Dew. Oopsy!

Vault the soda? I don't think it's an energy drink
I am appalled for you! I am from North Carolina, and I have not had major trouble finding my fave drink on the planet, yet, but the thought terrifies me! I have noticed that it has gotten placed down lower and lower in the coolers at convenience stores and that there isn't as much shelf space for it at Wal-Mart and the other grocery stores. The only time I have run into trouble is when I have wanted to purchase a 2 liter at a convenience store. This has become more difficult over the last, oh 6 months, or so. My brother-in-law also loves Mello Yello and he said that a distributor told him the same thing you posted: Coke is really pushing the new, and quite frankly nasty, energy soda Vault. The only time I was unable to find mello yello was when we went on a Disney cruise to the Bahamas and we left from Orlando. Nowhere, and I mean nowhere, in the state of Florida, had Mello Yello in convenience stores. According to the store personnel, it was only available in limited supply at large grocery store chains. The Bahamas did not seem to have it anywhere in the downtown area of Nassau. (Believe me, I looked everywhere I could find that sold soft drinks!)
I am a Mello Yello addict - literally! I do not drink anything else, and I usually go through at least a 2 liter a day. (I have also racked up some serious dental bills!) My family thinks I'm insane, and they are actually thrilled at the prospect of me being forced to drink something else. I don't have enough storage space to stockpile 2 liters, and my husband wouldn't be too cooperative about that, anyway. I will gladly join the campaign to "SAVE OUR SODA", and I will begin writing to Coca Cola immediately! Thanks for your help!
