One of the most celebrated and original directors of 20th century European cinema has died, apparently quietly in his sleep, at his home in Faro, Sweden.
I think it's a good death, as good as he deserved. With the death of Bergman the end of an age draws nearer; of his generation only Michelangelo Antonioni remains now, I believe.

Ah yes, the Paris Hilton of his time.
Let his "accountants" and "lawyers" handle all his finances and got busted for income tax evasion. Later absolved, but still had to pay the government, so he must have worked something out.
His defense? In his autobiography he admitted to guilt in only one aspect: "I signed papers that I didn't read, even less understood."

...disregarding for a minute the fact that he actually made good films, instead of easy entertainment. Everyone has faults, and if this is his worst fault, I daresay he's a better man than most of us.
