Well he's not impressing me with his exercises.
Just like Yngwie Malmsteen doesn't impress me with his songs. It's just some fast licks.
Brian didn't play that many fast licks and I tend to like the more mellow ones..
It's all about the music, technique means nothing without emotion. But, the same goes for the other way around: if you don't control your instrument, you just can not play what you intend or want to play..

I agree with you. All this shred guitar is just too much show-off and too little emotion, in my opinion. David Gilmour for example isn't such a great/fast guitarist, and probably can't get even close to for example Yngwie Malmsteen (I remember something from him that is called 'Heavy E Phrygian'... says it all basicly, just some fucking around with a scale, without any intent to move the public, or write touching music. Just show off that he knows all that sort of stuff, and is very fast and technical...), but I can listen to DG on guitar for hours. Same goes for Brian May, and Pete Townshend.
But nevertheless, it's still great to be able to do those killer licks, and yeah yeah they are exercises, I know, but for listening on a record they aren't my choice (so when those licks are made into 'songs', like Yngwie does).
