Is it just me or does anyone else think that(and this might sound a little morbid) Freddie´s voice got more powerful, thicker and, in my opinion, stronger during let say the recording of "Innuendo". I mean, just "hitman" and the roumor/fact that he recorded "Show must go on" in one take, his first. "Dont try so hard" is a great example that he still has his falsetto in there...Just came to think of this. I mean, he was in fact dying.

Yes I agree. As he got sick, he did leave the party life behind and thius quit smoking ect ect and from this his voice did sound more sharp than previous albums.
How ever! and I am being serious, a persons body frame and tourso can effect the voice. Opera singers of larger build, (fatter) usally sing better. Paverotti (pardon the spelling) was noted as saying he feel's he sings better with the more weight he puts on as he gets older. Now as for Freddie, he body mass was more in the size of the younger Fred in his later years as he was becoming more ill, but none the less, the voice he projected and passion behind it in the later years, taking all the above in to concideration did change ans yes, did sound more powerfull. [/QUOTE]

That is the most accurate explanation on this thread. I agree with you for the most part.
However, I'd like to add that because of his lack in touring, in fact there was no touring since 1986, Freddie Mercury was able to relax himself vocally which in effect helped improve his singing abilities. Oh, and just for interest and discussion, here is something Freddie said a while back regarding his 'Mr. Bad Guy' album:
"I was pleased with the album. I was also pleased with my voice. I like it husky. It's all the smoking. That's why I smoke: to get that husky voice."

Yes it is true, voice changed because of smoking, watched the interview on you tube.
I personally enjoy his early voice, prior to about 1975.
Ok, smoker or non smoker I do think that hitting "Show must go on in" one take is absolutly amazing for a guy that´s:
A. Almost 45 years of age.
B. Deteriorating.
C. Working so hard he can to leave as much stuff to the other guys as possible.
I mean, take one young, healthy, rested guy and put him up to sing this song..It will NEVER EVER sound as good as Freddie.

I agree I think Freddie's voice got stronger.
it got more smooth. I really think Freddie's voice was never bad. Always right on.
The best singer ever.
