There is something wicked coming.

The beginning of the NFL season is nearly upon us. Yes, the greatest sport in the world. (Go ahead, get yer knickers twisted, soccer fans) And with this event, out of the pits of hell come some of the most sinister and evil people, and they only come out at this time. Not gamblers, cheating refs, or couch potatoes... I'm talking about Fantasy Football players.

In the last couple of weeks, I've talked to a few of these "loons", some of which are tying to convince me to be "in their draft*".

*Draft - a room full of nerds wearing oversized jerseys (even though they're size small) discussing who is the better tight end.

Is this strictly confined to America? Or does this happen on an international scale? I'd like to think that since we're a young country, maybe you older folks (Norweigans, Russians, Brits, etc) grew out of that crap 400 years ago and we're just acting like kids.

Is there Fantasy Cricket? or Fantasy Futbol? Or do you just like to get pissy watching a good game like me and maybe everyonce in a while have some money on it?
There's fantasy cricket. I always end up losing.

What happened to XFL!?!??!??!?!? THAT WAS COOL!
...this kettle is boiling over... ...one dump...one turd...two tits...John Deacon... ...one prawn...one shrimp...one clam...one chicken!
The NFL is over rated....University Football (NCAA) is where it's at!! I can't wait for that to get started again!
And I don't think the Europeans have outgrown anything...have you ever seen their soccer games? My word, I mean I know we get into football and everything, but they will KILL people over a soccer game!
Maybe that's why American football won't serve alcohol in the stadiums past the 2nd half...give you a good hour or so to sober up before everyone congregates at the exits.

If it's the greatest sport in the world, why does virtually no one outside the US play it, and how come even then your season's only four months long?

I enjoy it really, but let's not get OTT (oh wait, you're American - as you were)...

As to your main point, it sounds a little geeky (especially wearing the uniforms - that's just sad) but I'd prefer it to the "soccer" fantasy games, where everyone can pick the same players.

There are a couple of fantasy games where you get together with some mates and auction all the players between you, so that only one person has X player, and someone ends up spunking their wad on their favourite player, only to have to make up his team with no-marks as a result.

Much more entertaining.
American football is more than 4 months long....it's called Arena Football in the off season. NCAA is 4 months long because the athletes are university students...not professionals with nothing better to do than play football. The theory is they are students first and athletes second (however, I will disagree with that at most universities). And I don't really think it's the greatest sport in the world...but it's one I enjoy watching and can understand. As soon as I can find someone willing to explain the ins and outs of soccer to me, I'm sure I'll like that just as much, as I already enjoy watching the games when I catch them but I get easily frusterated by the fact that I don't understand the game.
As for the "Virtual" stuff...I don't know what to make of it. A bunch of guys who couldn't play the game getting together to pretend to be involved in it? Sheesh! There's gotta be something better you could be doing with your time.

The only reason the NFL only has four months in a season is because it's a high contact sport. In other words, when you have 250 + lbs men hitting each other on a weekly basis, it will take a toll on your body. The career of an average NFL player only last about six years. One severe injury and your career is over.

I hate football. I've been to one NFL game, and I was bored to death.
Every sport in American I think has "seasons." Baseball season is spring through fall, basketball I have no clue, and American football starts what in about August and ends end of January?

I don't much care about sports so I dunno but I am interested in learning more about futbol/soccer, etc. Where I live it is extremely popular in highschool sports but then it just sort of stops there. My husband played soccer/futbol/football from the time he was about 6 until he graduated from highschool. Now he plays on some indoor teams but here it seems like after highschool, there is no where else to play except for some recreational stuff.

Rugby is equally high contact, played year round with minimal padding.

And your last sentence applies to any sport and many other careers too.
My dad and brothers are obsesssed with Fantasy Football. They've actually made a lot of money from it.
I am the most obsessed Queen fan.

Ya know what. Maybe soccer is a fine sport. It's just that the kids that played the game while I was in school act like gaint douches. Hence my opinion of the game. These kids actually had the nerve to act tough around campus. I could understand it if they just had some fun with it and realized that it's just a game.
Perhaps there is a stereotype in this country that pins soccer as being a sport for children of upper middle-class parents who cart their little weiner brats all over town to play a game and show off in front of other families. The whole soccer mom thing is seen here in two different perspectives, one positive, one negative. Depends if one is claiming to be a soccer mom, or is being accused of being a soccer mom.

It also bugs me that a player can roll around on the ground after being bumped so that a penalty can be drawn against the opposing team. If you're really hurt, take it like a man and wait to be carted off the field. Otherwise, get your ass back in the game and get angry.

After all, the only true sports are mountain climbing, bull fighting, and auto racing. Everything else is just a game. Happy to have checked off one of these in my 23 years. Care to guess which one? ;-)

Soccer fans and players worldwide have ruined the chances of soccer being accepted in America. Get over it. Rational people do not need to have unanimous agreement of opinions (or even correct spelling) to feel complacent.
