While we're on the subject, has anyone noticed that the bongos that appear loudly in the 1991 remix of "Liar" are present very low in the original album version? You may have to put the headphones on to hear them, but they ARE there.

I don't think much was actually ADDED to that version, it in fact being a remix in the most literal sense: mixing the multi-track to a new stereo mix.

Yes, I heard them, I only have the original album version but I noticed them a while ago. :)

Yes, the Liar single remix is exactly that - a remix. There are various parts such as backing vocals, percussion etc.. that have been mixed differently. It sounds too as though a sampler has been used on the original drum parts to give a completely new drum sound. It's a really nice and interesting, and more importantly for a single, radio friendly mix.
Incidentally, there may well be bongos on the track, but I think the prts you're referring to are congas (congas are the large floor standing drums played by hand that Roger plays in the video to These Are The Days Of Our Lives, whereas bongos are the smaller version which are played on the lap or held between the knees).!

Well, since John, Brian, Roger and Freddie all stomped and clapped (and probably even more people) they all had to be in time, hence the count in.
