Orion the Hunter - So You Ran was the only "hit" off of their only album.
Barry Goodreau - both in Orion and a self-titled debut a few years before that, Dreams being the major "hit."

1. I already said I wasn't keen on Toto. And don't think I didn't notice you trying to sneak the guitarist in as well.
2. I said tunes, so that's Vai, Zappa, Carlton & Miles Davis out.
3. Not sure if Miles had an album called Jack Johnson, or if you're suggesting Jack johnson himself. If the latter, he's a pile of hippy doo doos that my girlfriend likes.
4. It doesn't HAVE to be different, but there's no point suggesting The Beatles - I do listen to a lot of music so let's assume I have covered the basics.
ps Styx were awful, Grass Roots weren't bad. Nazereth were too screechy, Deep Purple were too hammond-y, Rainbow didn't have the tunes, Cheap Trick don't seem too bad.

Well, you did specify Guitar. If I could offer you a money-back guarantee, I would. Their new album is really good. I am a fan, but for mainstream audiences, just as good as Toto or Toto IV. And Luke's album is about as far away from Toto as you could imagine. There aren't any ballads here!

Larry Carlton used to sing and does indeed write "tunes". After the shooting, the singing never happens, but for his first 4 albums, he did sing and have guest vocalists.
Vai, ok, but it is his most "listenable" album without over-doing it.
Zappa - Joe's Garage is chuck full of catchy tunes, all tied together by the C.S., but fun and funny.

Some have called Miles' "A Tribute To Jack Johnson" soundtrack one of the greatest rock & roll records ever made. Yes, Rock & Roll. John McLaughlin. No Pianos. Herbie Hancock on only a Farfisa organ. You are missing out here.
