First off believe me I'm a stickler for people who post something that has already been covered a million times so I will apologize in advance if my Question has been asked before....With that out the way, I recently purchased the DVD "The Making of ANATO" and I was sitting there thinking that everything from the theme of the title's of the 2 albums right down to the artwork of just how much both these albums kinda seem to draw from the same influence/creative period. ANATO has always been considered Queen's Magnum Opus but do you think it would have gone off the charts if ADATR was attached? It seems like every great band has done the Double Album and with most they were a huge success or that particular band's so called masterpiece. Queen already took the world by storm with ANATO but you combine it with ADATR and they would have blown everybody away!! I look forward to what you all have to say.....Good Day

Don't think it would get a good reception. Read the ADATR reviews, they get some slamming for repeating themselves. And in a way they're right.

If you put the two together, they quite sound alike.

So you wouldn't get a diverse album what the boys were aiming for in those days.

But if you say a double Album with some songs off NOTW(Champions, WWRY, SHA, etc) and some ADATR tracks (Somebody To Love, Drowse) you WOULD get a very diverse double album.

Hey Lyricalassassin, I was one of the people who actually posted that question some time ago. :)

My view is YES, I think they would have blown away everybody, perhaps even some idiot.. critics and who knows, the (vomit) Rolling Stone magazine.

Maybe it would be considered their White Album.

I see the point in the double album NOTW/ADATR, but ANATO/ADATR would sure the album of albuns.

As for the repetitive opinion, it's only repetitive because they are two. :) If there was a double album, no one would think that that particular set of songs was repetitive.

Cheers all!

it's like saying should Rubber Soul and Revolver should have been double albums. When ANATO was released at the end of 1975 I bet a lot of the ADATR songs weren't even written yet so how could it have been. The 2 albums definately sound similar and ADATR is very much the same style as ANATO and kind of part 2 of it but i don't think they could have been a double album.
Sounds like it could be yet another re-release option...

definitely not a double....wouldn;t work...and in the middle of the economic era at the time....it would've seemed extravagent...

however, you could make one blindingly great album out of the two (it'd be almost as good as queen II)

death on two legs / you're my best friend / tie your mother down / you and i / millionaire waltz / love of my life / i'm in love with my car / good old fashioned loverboy / prophet song / bo rhap / you take my breath away
