I was referring to PG's comment that a cover does not include songs where it's essentially a singer with Queen as a backing group. Robbie's included, which was officially released, but George's Somebody to Love, which was a top 10 hit on its own, is not.

I think the Robbie thing should stay. *barf* So, I guess that means the tribute concert stuff should stay, but is it really a cover version if Queen is there?? This is why I'm glad P_G is doing this page. ;-)

Dream Theater is out except if any Queen material was included in either of the unplugged shows included as extras on the "5 years of a LIVEtime" DVD.

"Queen+[whoever]" and "[whoever]+Queen" ought to be held in equal standing. Hating the collaborators, such at 5ive, Wyclef, or Robbie Williams, isn't reason enough to exclude them. That's called revisionism and it's frowned upon by any and every respectable publication.
Which gets A or B billing ussually comes from a variety of reasons: a) the record company, b) the producer, c) whoever prompted the collaboration. No two collaborations' criteria will match or balance.
What WE are looking at, I think we'll agree, is if Queen (in ANY of it's carnations...Freddie-era and post-Freddie-era) is credited, they are given equal weight.
Therefore, the following should be catagorized equally:
-George Michael And Queen (with Lisa Stansfield)
-Queen And David Bowie
-Zucchero And Queen (with Sharon Corr)
-Robbie Williams + Queen
-5ive + Queen
-Queen And Wyclef Jean (with Pras And Free)
-Queen + Elton John
-Queen + Paul Rodgers
-John Farnham + Queen
To avoid hairsplitting, a seperate section ought to be devoted to members of Queen individually appearing on other people's recordings (Ian Hunter, Billy Squier, etc.).
Any "Covers" section should be strictly recordings with NO Queen involvement (no individual member appears in any part of the recording, including producing or guest backing). For instance, the cover of "Misfire" by Neko Case And Her Boyfriends is a straight cover with no Queen involvement. The version of "Love Of My Life" by Extreme (with Brian May) would be more accurately described as a Solo Collaboration. What's the difference, you ask? To make things simply, there was Queen involvement on a track which was originally recorded by Queen. Had Brian NOT appeared, it would Qualify as a straight cover.
Here's where it gets more complicated:
A solo member (Brian or Roger mostly) releases a cover of a Queen song (new section here, Solo Covers). Roger released "Ride The Wild Wind" and "I Want To Break Free" on different "Happiness" single formats. Brian has released "Hammer To Fall" on the Japanese "Red Special" Mini-Album
(Before we start another argument, let's not get into whether *Brian/Roger* released a given product or whether the record company did, okay? If it's official and it has his name on it, well, for all intents and purposes [our anyway] he released it.)
Official is anything that was made commercially available OR released as a promotional item by a record company/artist. Even if it wasn't endorsed by Queen (ie the Smile recordings have had two official releases)
