This is homework for a sixth grader and no one here can figure it out. Any takers?

There are 5 houses in a row in five different colors. In each house lives a person from a different country. Each person drinks a certain drink, eats a certain food and keeps a different pet. No two people drink the same drink, eat the same food or keep the same pet.

The Brit lives in a red house

The Swedish keeps dogs

The Dane Drinks tea

The green house is on the left of the white house

The green house owner drinks coffee

The person who eats beans rears birds

The owner of a yellow house eats corn

The man living in the house right in the center
drinks milk

The Norwegian lives in the first house

The man who eats rice lives next to the man who keeps cats

The man who keeps horses lives next to the man who eats corn

The man who eats carrots drinks beer

The German eats pasta

The Norwegian lives next to the blue house

The man who eats rice has a neighbor who drinks water

Who owns the fish?

Explain how you get to your answer. Use diagram, charts or any other graphics organizer to show your work.

EDIT - Okay. We worked on this for a stupid amount of time before I posted here and think I FINALLY came up with the answer. I won't post until you have a chance to figure it out... if y'all are so inclined. :-)

Owning the fish meaning as a pet, or food? I'm trying to work it out! XD

EDIT: Oooohhhhhhhh! :P

I think as a pet... and sorry... did you look at the answer before I edited my post??? Yikes! So sorry. It's gone now... and I'm not sure if it's even right anyway, so ignore what I had there. :-/

^ No, no, that's okay! It would have killed me if I couldn't get it, anyways, so I'm glad you posted. XD
Though I'm still doin' it, but I think you were right... :P

It's in fact very easy: you write 5 columns and enter the facts into the columns. Start with something 100% sure: the Norwegian lives in the first house. From there you work your way excluding options from the facts you were given. The answer is: The German owns the fish.

Here are your columns:

1 - Norwegian-yellow-water-corn-cats
2 - Dane-blue-tea-rice-horses
3 - Brit- red-milk-beans-birds
4 - German-green-coffee-pasta-fish
5 - Swede-white-beer-carrots-dogs

LOL. You're forgiven. :-)

We did come up with that answer - eventually - but didn't find it easy at all. I'm impressed. How long did that take you? Five minutes?

Yes, about 5 minutes but it's a hobby for me to solve riddles and puzzles. I have done lots of them, so it's not difficult. I think it's difficult for a 6 grader, though.

Typical woman!
Five minutes to solve the puzzle - but years to master the edit button ;-)
