I certainly do not expect anyone to overlook Freddie's gayness. That was, afterall, a part of who he was.
There is a difference, however, between being aware of something, and, obsessing over it.

Actually I'd have to argue it totally made the man he was, or at least the stage persona. Sleeping with the same sex rather than the opposite sex probably isn't that important (and is kind of boring to me too), but SECONDARY experiences surrounding being gay like isolation, alienation, physical violence, etc. are what shape the music and the person. When you go through all that, it's not a minor thing. The music and stage show was his outlet for dealing with a lot of those things. He knew how to "mainstream" it so you didn't have to pay attention to his sexuality to enjoy the music or the shows, but on the other hand when you're "in the know" then there's another level to his art that should be able to be freely talked about and celebrated.
