Stupid fucking thread. I'm sick of people trying to hijack the happiness that fans have found in Queen + Paul Rodgers. There are certainly those who don't like the collaboration, but I am one who very much supports Q+PR and am anxious to hear the new album. It sucks, but Freddie's quite dead. I have said this in similar posts, and I'll say it again: Paul has given Brian and Roger whatever motivation necessary to continue forward, as musicians. I am so thankful for the 2005-6 tour. Paul was absolutely fantastic - he's not Freddie, clearly, but fantastic in his own right.

Only mediocre fans who are consuming-oriented support the release of this BM RT PR collaboration. There is a difference between culture and mass-culture but I dont expect those guys to know that. There is also difference between core art and business and I personally won't replace a French restaurant to McDonalds. The fast food generation will NEVER understand the quality of "sausages", that Freddie meant. However, even they understand that this leads to an increased level of cholestersol. I enjoy the idea of a joint album by BM RT PR only in a combination of the thought for a total flop so that they also know the money keeps rolling in all directions but this has also a price. I don't think this album will appear in the charts at all.

Brian May and Roger Taylor are WONDERFUL musicians. They were, to say the least, as important as Freddie. If Freddie Mercury was the only talent in Queen, or MUCH more talented than the other guys, Ibex wouldn't have been a flop. Smile, which had Brian and Roger but NO Freddie was more successful than Ibex.
I don't know how you old are, but I'm just seventeen (no pun intended), so I've never had the chance to witness Queen releasing new music. Made In Heaven was released when I was 4 or 5 years old. Rocks featured ONE new song and I was 6 or 7 years old...
Now I can finally know what it feels like to see my biggest idols releasing a new album. Now I know what it feels like to check your idol's website every week for news on the album, and getting all excited over things like "It's going to be a double album", "We've already got 8 songs", "We'll probably go on tour again to support the album"...
And then, when the album is out, I'll be here, wishing with all my heart that the album and tour will be successful enough so that they'll consider stopping by my country as well, and I'll finally see them live.

I disagree. Queen was a pop-oriented singles band in the 80's. It was Freddie who said that his songs are disposable pop. Products of mass-culture, designed to be consumed. Not that there's anything wrong with that. It's only you who seems to think that mass-culture is inferior to "real culture". Queen always had great tunes, even if they were extremely commercial.
As for the new album, I think these guys are great musicians. Can't wait to hear what they have to offer. It's probably not going to be a big seller, though.

It's awesome being able to witness our idols putting together a new album, and possibly much, much more!

Very well put. Being 22, I'm excited about a new album (I wasn't at first, I admit) and I can't wait to see what the guys come up with.
I also never imagined in all my years as a fan that I'd ever get to see them live, so when they played Toronto last year, it was dream come true. I sincerely hope they decide to tour again in support of the new album!
