The fact that Brian has been appointed chancellor of Liverpool John Moores University makes global news. Today he is the most famous Rock person in the world.
Congratulations, Dr. May, you can be proud. What a fantastic honour and achievement. He must be the happiest person right now. Let's hope we see an academic heavy weight rocking on stage soon.

YourValentine,
>>Today he is the most famous Rock person in the world.
No, he's not. Both Elvis Presley and John Lennon are more well-known than Brian May.
As well as Paul Mcartney, Mick Jagger, Elton John, Rod Stewart etc etc.......

You're right, he did make the global news... Or at least the BBC news. Not that anyone would actually see the news, as I had to do a google search before I found it on their website. :P
I do have to say that one honorary academic position (following Cherie Blair) doesn't really make him a famous rock person. :/

Benn - maybe "more prominent"? just today?
He is really on all news shows, websites, news papers. Who would have thought it's such a big story.

I know........and there we all were wondering just why journalists collectively have the reputation that they do - you'd have thought their imaginations could stretch just that litle bit further, wouldn't you.
I think they just like to have pictures of old rockers across the media with curly hair that really needs to have a cut.......
Perhaps, you know, Brian would be a good candidate for the next series of "I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here!"........

Here in Holland it's on the frontpage of a free, daily paper. (Sp!ts}

It's much different in my country. People are genuinely impressed by the fact that Brian
- excells in such different fields as Rock music and astrophysics
- succeeded in getting his PhD at the age of 60
- has been awarded various honorary doctorates
-and finally has been appointed chancellor of a university - quite an unusual honour
There i s nothing to add, he is just a very unusual person. I wish he would release a Queen DVD from the 70s ;)

Just when I thought I couldn't respect Brian any more... holy crap. That's incredible.
10 bucks says no one will mention it over here. ;-) I'll check out Entertainment Tonight and see if they say anything.

I love it how radically he breaks the 'rocker' stereotype :) Some go on 24 hour benders, some snort cocaine off bathroom floors, some do what assdude explains ubove, Brian May however, get's a doctorate, campaigns for the rights of foxes and hedgehogs and becomes a University chancellor. You gotta love 'im
