Why don't you just tell her/him/it that no artists were harmed in the making of the site, all their material will be promptly removed upon request (Metallica and U2 among others have requsted this), and the site has no sponsors from whom the administrators would receive money.
As far as I can see it's a perfectly harmless non-profit website, unlike QZ. ;)[/QUOTE]
You as a fellow Finn if anyone should be aware that Teosto and Gramex make no separation between the non-profit traders/collectors (online and real-life) and the actual piracy (official releases). Non-profit traders have been punished already with severe fines in Finland, so it's not exactly a risk-free hobby. The stance of local authorities considering these harmless bootlegs comes clear on the antipiracy.fi website in cases such as
http://www.antipiracy.fi/ajankohtaista/uutinen.html?id=8025

Notice how the guy that got a 16000€ fine was actually given a "lighter" sentence for being a non-profit collector/trader...
Yes, Dime is illegal according to the current Finnish legistlation (both downloading and sharing the bootleg material), however getting caught is quite a rarity. I'm sure it's almost impossible to get caught in online bootleg downloading with all the ISP's reluctant to share details about their customers and their online activities, unlike with real-life cd trading that involves the post office, customs and such (not to mention your real name and address on the envelope).
But those who you who do Dime, better enjoy it while it lasts, because no-one knows when the plug gets pulled on all the fun.

And to make my life worse my better half is totally against any sort of p2p usage on our shared adsl connection. And I'm foolish enough to agree.

U2? Are you sure? As far as I'm aware, they're totally for bootleg sharing, and they're only against bootleg selling. That's why U2torrents.com has been running safely. They even have a quote from Bono somewhere in their website encouraging people to tape their concerts and share it, but never sell it.
