That 'yodel' like warble she uses especially at the end of phrases seems to be widespread among female singers today.
You are not alone: I don't like that version because IMVHO it misses (or deliberately ignores) the point of the song and "tames" it down unfairly;
besides, that warble you mention always grates on my nerves, whoever it comes from...

Hurrah! Thank you gnomo I thought I was the only one!
And I agree about Stevie Ann 'taming' it-that's the whole point isn't it? You've only got one year of love so you *should* make a big song and dance about it!
This truly is one of their all time worst songs. Something Michael Bolton would be proud of.
The song is a total embarrassment and complete joke. No matter how you present this pile of crap it's still pure shit.

Wait a second...and I mean no disrepect, but this is coming from a guy that plays in a band that covers Achy Breaky Heart?
I started a remix once using I Was Born to Love You as an instrumental backing.
The concept was there, it worked, but I didn't have enough appropriate audio to do the whole song.

I've always felt a saxaphone-less version would've been great. The shitty 'click' drum sound could go as well.
I like the Queen version, but I think I like the Stevie Ann version better. Can't really put my finger on it, but it just has something I like more.
Freddie Mercury: singer of songs, lover of life
I do like the Queen Version, but the stripped down acoustic version that Stevie Ann did seemed to me have more soul and affection to the lyrics and it made the words jump out at me saying that it was just One Year of Love.

Ok..fair enough...
[QUOTENAME]drwinston wrote: [/QUOTENAME]I know it's blasphemy here, but I think the problem with the song is the lead vocals. This is a nice little ballad (...) but Freddie's screaming at the top of his lungs in parts of the Queen version. I think the best change would have been lowering the key a step or two and let Freddie wrap his voice around it instead of using to test the upper register of his range.
Not a blasphemy- I actually feel the very sasme way!
