Taylor Hawkins Rocks the airwaves with Queen...

Some serious props are due Mr. Taylor Hawkins,as he and fellow Foo bass player(name?)took over the Radio for an hour Wednesday night on Philly's best Radio Station 88.5 WXPN.The "Hawk" as he jokingly refered to himself in a laid back west coast tongue and cheek kinda way,played a bunch of modern rock due to the shows modern rock time slot.Basically alot of interesting new tunes that I don't know the names of or remember the bands that played them,except for one song called "Oh young Lions" by a band that opened for the Foos at one time or another.Well to make a long story longer.The coup de grace came when the "Hawk" rocked the public airwaves with very possibly one of the greatest of Queen's Prog/Metal masterpieces.The one the only "The Prophet's Song"!Amazing ,I've been a Queen fan since 1975 and this was the first time that I have ever heard TPS on the public airwaves!Man,Hawkin's is cool as Schmitt to play that.His comment was you can't just go for the hit's you gotta go Deeeeeep!Also WXPN a listener funded station in Philadelphia is awesome.No I don't work for the station,actually I'm not working for anybody at the present.I just thought that I would mention another of many cool moments listening to XPN!Check em out on the webif you get a chance.Cheers

Now that REALLY is something! I am so happy to hear about it! But let me tell you while I would agree to the rarity of that song being played on public radio in the U.S. of A. one of the things that made me go ape s_hit for Queen was when they played "A Night At The Opera" in its entirety in the bleak of the night at midnight here in my local town. Let me tell you...it is LIKE (not one but LIKE one) a religious experience hearing "A Night At The Opera" for the first time AND in the dark! Wow-zers! Something else! I tell you what!

Taylor is awesome. :-) The bass player is Nate Mendel, btw. I luuuv me some Foo!!!

Alice Cooper played 'Liar' on his show, last Saturday I believe. But yeah, this is cooler. I just wanted some place to say that.

WOW! "Liar" got played??!!!! HOLY crap! That's AMAZING!! I AM REALLY excited to hear about that!!! The Alice Cooper Show that is played NATION WIDE in the U.S. of A.?! That's played in my hometown! Wow! Was it in its entirety?! I've never heard about that being played in the U.S. in many, many years!!! Wow! ...and NO I am not joking with my excitement here! ROCK ON!

Didn't realize it was broadcast here. I see it's on Fox 102. Of course, I only ever listen to XM. Satellite radio is the bomb. Pieter heard March of the Black Queen and Funny How Love Is back to back on Deep Tracks one day.

Speaking of Taylor Hawkins, I've got a recording of some radio shows the Foos did in the UK for a week where Taylor plays Liar there, too.

Well, then (and maybe it deserves its own topic), it might be interesting to hear that Brian mentioned in his soapbox that he was playing on a Taylor Hawkins track (maybe for the Coattail Riders?) on Feb 8th.

Taylor's awesome. I was just listening to the Coattail Riders album today, actually!

Now we're talking. I seem to spam this board with posts about other bands recently, like Maiden and now the Foos. But I really like the connection between Dave and Taylor that you can see on the Skin and Bones DVD (little bits and pieces that you have to see and that make you smile). He's an awesome drummer, and Cold Day In The Sun is quite a good song actually, if you don't expect the Foos to re-write This Is A Call over and over again. :-))

It was full-length indeed, and I was so freaked out to hear it on the radio that I couldn't remember what it was for a minute. LOL! I was slightly disappointed when I heard Alice come on.. only because it would have been even nicer if a local DJ had actually played it. :)

I wish the Foos would announce some tour dates near me soon. We saw them in Atlanta and Charlotte last October. We got Dave and Taylor's autographs in Atlanta, and Dave got up in the crowd right next to us during Stacked Actors in Charlotte. Unbelievable! I've got my fingers crossed they'll be back round here in the summer. :-)

I haven't had much interaction with Chris and Nate, but Dave and Taylor are great guys. Taylor and I had a great conversation about Queen once upon a time.
