Boston 12.11.1977 - I´m In Love With My Car taped vocals were played?

I read the article of the newspaper posted in the queenconcerts, and my first reaction was:

LOLOLOLOLOLOL

How can this be truth? The band members just playing and Roger´s voice playing in a tape? That sounds odd!

Is it known if this happened ever again (presuming this one is truth)??

There is no truth to this at all! The reporter got it wrong and obviously he was not giving a good review. The only time they used tapes was the opera section in BoRap and during the middle part of Ogre Battle though they played it once during a Philly show. Tapes were also used at the begining of the show for WWRY and again at the end during God Save The Queen.Roger is a very capable singer and doesn't need to have any tapes to cover his voice.

Are you sure any tapes were used in Ogre Battle live performances?

Queen never actually performed live. Every performance was mimed to tape.

Sure, if you listen to some of the earlier shows with Ogre Battle in the setlist you can hear some of the screams and overdubs from the studio version tossed into the live mix. They didn't use too much of it but those little tidbits are in there. They were "punched" in during Brian's solo.

Sounds to me as though the reporter, not too familiar with how a Queen concert is organised, was watching Freddie who was clearly not singing and didn't realise that it was actually Roger on lead vocals. In true journalistic tradition, he decided in his mind that as the groups singer was not contributing to the noise that he was hearing, a tape must have been employed. Perhaps he didn't have a clear view of the drum kit. Or maybe he was just plain stupid.

ok sanremo's performances too were mimed. also a montreux jazz festival as far as i know

I strongly disagree. I'm pretty sure Roger is doing the scream live.

Indeed, it's a tape, as proven by the scream being played during the wrong song (Father To Son) at the Waterbury 74 show... I stand corrected.

Well, I guess on "Live at the Rainbow" Nov. 20th 1974, there were "some" studio overdubs. But I can't believe there were some at the actual gig.

It sounded so different from all the others...[/QUOTE]Just in case you're *not* joking: the San Remo performances (two nights) were of course mimed - the show was being broadcast live on prime time on national TV, so there was no way the organizers would take the risk of something going ever slightly wrong with a real live performance; besides, no time at all for the guests' equipment setup and soundcheck...
