Isn't it funny how you always hear john roger and brian talk about how great freddie was, but you never hear freddie talk about how good the others were...just shows everyone wants to hear about freddie.
Also was just thinking how lucky freddie was. Saw a picture of him at an airport with him getting off the plane and a limo waiting for him...that's the life, he had it and now it's gone. Fuck did he realise just how lucky he was. Even if i was brian may i wouldn't feel half the star that freddie was. Just such an interesting person, everything about him. There has to be a film made about him...sad thing is that people like johnny cash and elvis seem to be more popular yet they hadn't half the talent or charisma as freddie.
He was very photogenic, but wud he have looked as good if he had his mouth open in them all...see everyone has a bad point! Just think he was at the right time to be a rock star...something sexier about being a rock star in the 70's than say the 00's

He's dead! And people always say good things about people after they're gone! For people who only know Queen since Freddie's death and think he was always universally revered and acclaimed, go back and read reviews of the band and their work from back in the day - from the 70s and 80s. A lot of it was elss than glowing and a lot of it was aimed squarely at Mister Mercury.

I concur! Point very well taken. I grew up with Queen in the 70's and remember any review dealing with the band usually being negative. And Freddie was always a target. People that have become fans after his death really don't grasp the things that were written about them back then. But then again the fans are what put them at the top by buying the music. The critics got those records they were to review for free.
I don't think you can say who was the best, as they all have their great characteristics. I think it would be boring if just one person could have the best place. I think Freddie is in with the best entertainers. Nobody will ever forget Live Aid in London, the best rock concert ever in the history of the world and the Queen performance was one of the best. As much as I admire the other members of Queen and their talent, I can't imagine they would be 1/4 as good without Freddie as the front man.

I was born in 1970 so sort of missed their very early stuff and Freddie had a solo career in the 1980s with great songs. When I was about 14 I saw I was born to love you, on TOTP and loved it, so I was a fan from then. Then I saw them on Live Aid in London the whole concert was an experience with so many great performers, but when Queen come on it was magic as Freddie had all those people in the palm of his hand. I bought the box set of Queen and the third disk had some things made after Freddie died and I liked it. I liked Brians song for the Ford advert. I don't really remember anything bad written about them as they seemed to be popular to me. I don't think it would be right to say who was the best performer in the world, as it would be boring if there just had to be one but as far as I'm concerned Freddie is a legend who will always be remembered. They will be one of the great classics from our age.
