First Queen studio album to be released after you became a fan.

What was the first Queen studio album to be released after you became a fan & what did you think of it compared to the back-catalogue.?

Was it what you were expecting? Did it disappoint you? How did you hear about it? How did you get hyped for it?

For me, I became a converted fan in early '87 so "The Miracle" was the first new studio album I got to buy. I slowly collected the back-catalogue & boy it was fun discovering all of their previous albums. The first I became aware of them working on a new album was through an English radio show called "Rock Over London" which used to play on a Sunday night here in New Zealand. They had a brief backstage interview with Brian & John at the Princes Trust concert in '88 where they talked about how far through the album they were. When John was asked about touring he said they had no plans & that Freddie seemed very reluctant! Anyway, this "Rock Over London" show slowly over time got me hyped up & then one night they advertised that the new single would be played the following week - I just about wet myself with anticipation!

Of course "I Want It All" just blew me away as all I wanted was the heavy rock stuff. I taped it & played it over & over & over for weeks. And then one week ROL played a new non-album track - "Hang On In There" I was in Queen Heaven & hyped to the max for the album.

However, I remember the very first time I played "The Miracle" & was rather disappointed as I was hoping for all of the tracks to be like IWIA. Too many keyboards & pop-sounding songs I thought & "Party" was just horrendous - what was up with Freddie's scratchy vocals? Too many album fillers like RMF & MBDM & Party. So I have to say after the first few listens I wasn't overly impressed at all, but, it did grow on me over time & now I just love it. Some of Brian's best guitar work I reckon.

Innuendo

The album was Innuendo, I thought nothing about it because in that time I knew only Innuendo and The Show Must Go On (and I loved them)

A Day At The Races, but technically I wasn't a true fan until around Jazz.

I got into Queen after the nine week run of Bo Rap at the top of the UK charts (first time around) so I was very interested in them when Races came out, I was not dissapointed!

However I didn't really start following them properly until just before Jazz, which I also really liked, my first gig was in 1980 at Wembley

I think my ears nearly started bleeding it was so loud! but I never looked back after that...

I had most of the other albums by the time it was released but the first one released after I became a fan was The Miracle.

At the time I thought it was fantastic. Spent many hours revising for my GCSEs listening to I Want it All on the Radio.

Was outside HMV in Cardiff, on the day of the album release, before it opened to get my hands on it. Looking back now it is not one of their best but I still love I Want it All and Was it all Worth it as much as I did the first time I heard them.

After waiting outside HMV a few years later for Innuendo I definately thought that it ranked up there with the best. All my friends seemed to think it was not as good as The Miracle but I knew from day 1 that they were wrong. Many very strong tracks on it that have only got better over time.

Im one of those fans that was in from the beginning. I really got into them even more thanks to ANATO. What I really liked about it was it seemed more accessable and yet, at the same time, diverse. It was a musical journey through various styles from rock, pop, jazz, prog rock, ballad and opera all topped off with the pomp of GSTQ. It was brilliant then and is still brilliant now.

Must have been A Night At The Opera. I'd heard Killer Queen, loved it, bought SHA and became a fan.

And there you have it.

I guess I'll be the first to say that the first studio album to be released after I became hooked will be Queen + Paul Rodger's upcoming as yet-to-be titled studio album. What I can say at the moment is that the single "Say It's Not True" has given me nothing but positive feelings. Just so none of you confuse me as a complete rookie to the music of Queen, I have been a fan for nearly 5 or 6 years and have collected all of their albums on CD and even collected some memorabelia (LP's, singles, posters, shirts, music scores, books, etc).

I wasn't very old and had just a handful of albums, but after buying The Game, I stopped playing pretty much every other record I had. The next record I bought after The Game was Flash when it came out. Even cut out the record insert and used it as a "slipmat" so I had a Queen record player.

'A Night At The Opera' which solidified my appreciation of Queen after SHA

No that's not true. ;)

Our mum bought GH 2 for our dad because he liked the song the show must go on, and that's how we became a fan. Innuendo was bought by our mum much later...

After hearing a mix tape on a school trip to wooky hole, which my dear friend neil lent to me, i found out that my mum already had gh1, never looked back, my favourite is jazz.
