I have attempted to make this great song into a 5.1 mix. The channels have been filtered from the original stereo mix, so a bit of strange stuff going on from that. I haven't heard the final product myself on full 5.1 as i dont have a 5.1 set yet. But the 6 channel wma file works perfectly. So let me know what you guys think.

PS: You must have a 5.1 speaker set or higher attached to your PC or notebook. File does not play on a DVD player.

It depends on how the song is mixed, just like this MOTBQ version, it isn't really a 5.1 mix, you'll need the master-tracks for a real surround mix, as explained.
But it's possible to do fun stuff with the stereo versions.
Here's a '5.1 mix' I did of the song Who Needs You.
Because the song has two really seperate channels, it's easy to play with, so I've put one channel on the front speakers and the other channel in the back, enjoy. :)

It IS possible to make similar mixes from other songs. But as stated, having the masters results in a true 5.1 mix... speaking of which... My next attempt will most likely be Brighton Rock :)

Most of the today's sound systems can make fake 5.1 out of standard 2 channel stereo just by a click of a button - and so does mine. The result is pretty much the same as in the posted above files.
