Ok any of those, but also Life is Real, My Melancholy Blues (imagine that at Wembley in 1986, wonder what it would have sounded like, see that's the mystery of Freddie...draws u in, cos any fan can imagine how fucking amazing that song could have been at that concert), Roger Let there Be Drums, Brian Mya cut down Brighton Rock, John Deacon a bass solo, Fat Bottomed Girls, some Hot Space stuff...could keep going on

The sad thing is that Queen could have done the 'ultimate' concert, they had the songs. I mean name a band that would want to leave out songs like Killer Queen, Somebody to Love etc...i mean what a wealth of great songs they had.

What I liked most about your list was the inclusion of "Don't Stop Me Now", a song that Queen seldom played live, most, if not all, correct me if I'm wrong, the live versions coming from 1979.

It's a tricky song. Those deceptively simple songs by Queen. The vocals are pretty hard on this song. First of all, it's in F (bit tricky to Brian) and Freddie begins to sing it descending the scale from A (A3, G3, F3 - "tonight"). Well, most people who sing the song do the opposite: they go up instead of going down because of the color of the second syllable which gets the best of pretty much every singer who tries to sing this song. Then, he starts going up the scale - F3, F3, A3, C4 and then a treacherous leap to the tonic in order to fulfill the harmony, F4, ending the bar (I'm gonna have MYYYYY lol), he recovers one of the steps he had omitted (E4 - seeeeelf) and then he goes down again: C4, A3, G3 F3 (real good\time) thus postponing the resolution of the harmony to the beginning of next bar and creating a tension which will be finally resolved after the long "liiiiiive" (G3, A3, A3, Bb3 and finally C4. Just to create the tension again (and the world...) lol. The vertical vocal harmony in the chorus (don't stop me now) is tricky too, because someone has to take the B4 (DOn't), and who in his sane mind would want to do that trying to sound soft and gentle? It's a pretty straightforward vertical vocal harmony - there's no contrary movement nor autonomy between voices - but quite high in the register, so it's tricky.

He keeps going up and down, and in a matter of 8 bars, he's already at A4, that is, one octave above (turn) and then the killer B4 before going back to A4 to hold the note. Then the falsetto (floating around...)

And that's, like, just the intro. lol

Pretty high notes. Criminal sudden leaps, very sinuous melody that demands a lot of musical intelligence and control over one's voice in order to avoid sounding out of tune and keeping the song structure and harmony together (it's really eeeaaasy to go out of tune on this one) and then a good deal of physical prowess to keep singing in the higher register, but at a brisker pace, and it must sound delicate in some way and the notes must be given a very distinct colour to sound correct in the song structure.

This is an easy song by Queen.

Does anyone know a good cover of this one?

I'm assuming you know that Freddie didn't do the intro to Don't Stop Me Now live. In fact, I believe that the first recorded instance we have of a Mustapha intro came in place of DSMN's (Sir GH, mind fact-checking me on that?). The vocals were just too tricky to reproduce live.

Don't Stop Me Now, unfortunately, is a song that I just can't get into in its live versions. Even the album track isn't one of my favorites. I know, that's almost sacrilege to say, especially because I can't put my finger on why. I've just never liked it. Frankly, I wish the band had made one minor alteration to those Live Killers setlists:

Drop "Let Me Entertain You", replace as the #2 song with "Tie Your Mother Down". Use "Dead On Time" as the set closer--don't tell me that wouldn't have been a perfect way to end the set. Freddie shouts "YOU'RE DEAD!", a thunderbolt rocks the stage as pyro erupts, and the big guitar finish hits.

Maybe someone out there can shed some light on this for me--why was DOT never played live? Too deceptively tricky?

Hi, mooghead. I was just expressing my enthusiasm for the thread and the set list that slightly mad proposed. Expressing my fan enthusiasm for "Don't Stop Me Now", I really love the song!

So, I fully agree with slightly mad list. I think it's fun because it's realistic too, it could well have been the magic tour setlist, though I'm a bit skeptical about Spread Your Wings. (Play the Game would be really interesting if Freddie made his clever use of the lower register there, and he'd know how to make it, I guess).

Up until now, it's the list I liked the most! It's my setlist too, is it ok for you, slightly mad? :op

Well, you helped me make sense of why this song "came and went", so to say. lol It's not because I liked it a lot, no, but because it always struck me as awkward the fact that they didn't play it anymore even though, judging from the live version, the audience liked it so much!

Freddie used to let the audience sing the intro, isn't that right? Was it because the intro was tricky? It may well be, yes. But it might as well be because the audience did enjoy the song a lot, to the point of, in some concerts, and SirGH knows a lot about this tour and can correct me if I'm wrong, Freddie letting them sing it, sometimes, in some concerts, right from "tonight" on to the chorus. He'd step in on "I'm a shooting star", lol.

So, I always thought the audience enjoyed it a lot. In one of the recordings of Hammermith 79' (bowing to Queen lol) - I'd have to check it - one can notice that the audience just go nuts when he starts playing the song on the piano. They start singing the song, and so on. It's fun!

So, why did it disappear?

I stop now and I'd like to see what other people's setlists would be! I'm curious.

I don't buy it for a second that Dead on Time was too challenging for Freddie to perform live, I know its a high paced song, and after all this is the guy who recorded the vocals!
I think Queen played it safe with their audience performing the hits only such as Fat Bottomed Girls io Dead On Time.
As Freddie once remarked if they played every song that was requested the concert would last 3 days in duration.
