I used Audacity to make a Made In Heaven acapella and I am quite pleased with the results.
Before I upload it,should I leave it is as it is(5:23),with the bits of almost silence when Freddie is not singing,or should I edit out the intro before the first verse and the other almost silent parts?....both?

I think it's the best to keep the file as small/short as possible, so edit the (almost)silent parts out, for people without a broadband connection. ;)

I think I would prefer to hear it in original length.. in fact it sounds kind of exciting and I look forward to it :)
If you could upload both versions that would solve the problem of which way to do it :)

Also...tell us how the heck you did it :)

How I did it?
Sure....Here is the link:
http://www.acapellas4u.co.uk/topic24624.html
I used the original album version and the version that used in The Eye.
I had to edit it just a little bit so that the tracks would match up.
The first several times I ended up with complete silence.
I than moved the right input gain to the right and that did it.
The reason I did it is to hopefully make a mashup..but more on that later.
Now to upload the darn thing!
Yeah, accapella extraction is a bit tricky and when using something other than the original masters, you are going to end up with something less than perfect.
Just to make sure, that one I uploaded was the full length version?Let me know and I will upload the other version later...

Ha, I can't believe it worked this good :) Nice work sir. It's a shame it has to sound so "processed" like that, but I can still see it working good enough for being used for remixes or mash-ups or whatever.
And yes, this was the full-length version (5:23). Thanks :)

very good, well done. I've tried this before and it's never worked.

Well at least we know it can somewhat be done beyond just being theory :)

Diddums. I never had any luck. I kinda want to try this specific one to see if I can do the same thing, but I'm afraid of failure ;)

Guys,don't be afraid!
I was worried that it would end up crap, but as you can hear,Audacity did a pretty good job.
Just make sure that the vocal version and the instrumental version line up perfectly.
You might need to do a bit of cutting, but it really is not difficult.
I plan on making a Radio Gaga acapella, but the instrumental version I have was transfered from vinyl and plays just a bit slower than the album version,so I need to work on that.
I will get the edited MIH acapella uploaded later....
Very impressed with the isolation you've achieved. I tried the vocal extractor in Adobe Audition and it comes close, but still has some snare in the background.
I shall have to look into this technique more. I've tried it before but as DF said, the result was not a good one. Seems like we just need more patience with this technique!! Thanks for sharing. =)
