What a great write up.
Here's my 2 cents to give John some props. Listen to his bass playing on Father To Son, Never More, 7 Seas Of Rhye & especially Fairy Fellers... WOW!
In a radio intv w/Roger & Brian in 1991 Roger stated that he had always wanted to perform "Black Side" in its entirty.
So besides myself loving this realeas, it seems to be a fave of some of the band as well.
As for the releases in the 70's, Queen II is truly a stand out.

Funny How Love Is

"Funny How Love Is" was born in the studio. Mercury wrote it and played the piano while Robin Cable produced. It was produced using the "wall of sound" technique. The song was never performed live.

I love the Seven Seas re-mix, and I've never thought of Led Zeppelin III while listening to "Some Day, Some Way."

Great article....
I first heard Queen II as a fledgling fan in about '76, my brother's friend came round with it and once it was under the stylus, bloody 'ell !!! I can't remember my getting so excited in my previous 11 years, it had/has everything. And yes, White Queen is a lost gem isn't it !

As far as I'm concerned this has to be the best "experimental" album ever produced. When I first played it I was just blown away by the total change from their first album. The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke was before it's time and showed Freddie's talent for the unusual mix of instuments. The other track I especially like is The March of the Black Queen which was so complicated it was impossible to play live. All in all an album for Queen aficionado's.

queen 2 is along with a night at the opera the best album of queen, real early queen which was mix of progressive rock and heavy metal with artistic approach of glam rock. queen 2 is begining of that and opera is ending of which was the best musical period of queen (1973 - 1976) and really true original rock music style at the time (and still is). that's why queen 2 is along with sheer heart attack and opera the most influental queen record of all
