Hiya, guys. To say this movie was amazing is an UNDERSTATEMENT! I went to the first showing in my hometown (Montgomery, AL) and it BLEW ME AWAY!!! Now, I may be biased, but as a former comic-geek, I may have experienced my first theatrical orgasm!(hee hee)
But yeah... the story was tight, the acting was spot-on, and with a 2.5 hour running-time, it was certainly worth the $10 to get in!
PS: I've had my tickets since the end of June! ;-)

I must admit, the first time I saw the preview I was thinking, "ANOTHER Batman movie?????" But now I'm bubbling over with excitement to see it.
So Batman is dark. Who woulda thunked it?
I suggest either Pat Mills or possibly Garth Ennis be given the reins of any new Batman film because there's a brilliant parody/send-up there ready to be written. Previous attempts to show how ridiculous the character is have been so ham-fisted that it will never happen of course...

OK I've just realised there is a new Batman movie out.
The first one was brilliant, the second one was good, the third and the fourth sucked even much then the Star Wars prequels.
Batman Begins was pretty good again, so I'm curious about it. The trailer on YouTube looks interesting

I saw The Dark Knight just the other night and it was an incredible movie. It was extremely well done. There are so many good things to say about the movie. In fact, there are no bad things either my friends, family, or I can come up with. The movie was just that good! It was such a powerful film that by the end of the movie it had the audience standing up and applauding! It is the best Batman film ever -- I thought I would be comparing it to the original Batman with Jack Nicholson, but there is NO comparison. 5/5 stars! An excellent movie!

I wanna see it again....badly.
You know, Superhero movies really kinda suck. When Alexander Salkland fired Richard Donner and replaced him with a dimwit (Richard Lester) just so he didn't have to pay Marlon Brando and Gene Hackman, I thought we were doomed to B-rate crap at best. This of course, was Superman II, which was (for a sequel) actually not too bad. But then superhero movies even made Richard Pryor look bad.
And tumble they did. They didn't think Dolph Lundgren did a good enough job, so Thomas Jane had to resurrect The Punisher. Spiderman became a giant on-screen video game with no controls. Even The Hulk wanted us to love a story about a Dad injecting his kid with radiation. Now there seems to be a battle of Rocky vs Batman movies. It conjures up the movie poster from Airplane (Remember Rocky XXXVIII?)
But this time, I think they got it right. I didn't turn away for a minute, except when the two barrels, I mean kids, next to us went back for three, yes, three large popcorn tubs. Believe what is being written about Heath Ledger. Batman becomes a supporting role in this latest one, and I think this role [Ledger's] is better than his role in Mel Gibson's THE PATRIOT, which he was quite good in also. I'm not going to tell you any more, other than go see this movie.

Same here! I loved every minute of it.
Also, considering that I had a bunch of bratty kids behind me talking half of the movie and kicking my chair, I need to catch up with things I might not have have heard.
PARENTS: If you can't control your kids at the movies, keep them at home and wait for the DVD to come out.

WOW!!! It was awesome!!! That not a big enough word! Great, great movie. Heath was fantastic! Best movie of the year so far! I saw it at the IMAX theater. Anyone else see it in one of them? I can't wait to go again.

That was not only the most pessimistic statement I've read about The Dark Knight, but actually the only pessimistic statement I've read about The Dark Knight. Firstly, everybody is entitled to their own opinion. So let me first make it clear that I am not verbally attacking you, Penetration_Guru. I'm merely expressing my own opinions -- even if it is an argumentative stance.
At first you said that Ledger's Joker is simply an updated version of Nicholson's Joker. Perhaps of more importance, you said that anything new was taken from other great characters such as Hannibal Lector. But come on. Of course Ledger borrowed key aspects of these characters. It's impossible not to when we consider the fact that their personalities, which are for the most part similar, are shaped in the image of real characters (criminals from our past, the very definition of being a psychotic mastermind, etc). So, that being said, characters such as Hannibal Lector were nothing new as well. Their characters were based off of real people. It all comes from the same place. But let's return to what you first mentioned (updated version of Nicholson's Joker). The Joker has been evolving for decades. Ledger wasn't the first to evolve him. But to be honest, his Joker is the closest to the original, which Bob Kane created back in the 1930s or 1940s. So, in that respect, bravo! Finally! The definitive Joker!

I mostly agree with PG. Although Ledger wasn't anything special, it was still a good performance, so whatever - no travesties on the horizon.
The Batman voice was especially silly in this film - I don't think I really noticed as badly in Batman Begins.
The movie had an inconsistent pace, with some editing issues that interrupted the flow of the film. The action scenes were nonsensical, and not very outstanding.
Overall, I liked the movie, but come on - I think the first one was much better.

went to see The Darkest Dark Dark Knight twice at this point -- alternately fascinated and repulsed by the Joker, agreed a strong performance -- but there's never any indication why/how Two-Face gets out of Gotham General. there's more to suggest at first that Joker kills Two-Face by blowing up Gotham General. am I asking for too much exposition -- given how much violence etc occurs offscreen, this really is more of an 'R' film w/USA ratings -- or is this sloppy film making, or -- as the Joker says to Two-Face in the hospital, "I'm just an agent of chaos."
somehow I think the total lack of reference to an escape -- just Gordon playing the bureacrat's role and immediately ordering a coverup -- is intentional. it's a wild, unpredictable ride. the Joker's entrance is amazing ("how about a magic trick? let's make a pencil disappear!"), while Batman simply finishes what he starts.

There doesn't need to be an indication. In fact, it leaves your imagination open to all sorts of theories. Was he in the bus that left the hospital? Did he just leave on his own? Blah, blah, blah. I think you may be expecting too much out of the movie. Let your imagination run wild!
