My brother wants to know if you think hip hop is dead.
Is it? Or is it alive?
I know you guys are gonna post hilarious answers, but I want at least one honest, serious answer.
I think it's dead. I hate ringtone rap music (i.e. soulja boy, hurricane chris, etc.)
What do you think?

Mmm. I like Public Enemy. XD
But they just don't make rap/hip-hop like that anymore... Things have moved on to "Gangsta rap". Almost everything's about "bitches" and "ho's" and "on my grind all day" and shit like that.
I mean, stuff like Eminem's "You make my pee pee go doing doing doing doing!" or Lil Wayne or whatever the fuck his name is and "She licks me like a lollipop"... What the hell?!? It's just awful. Awful awful awful. I *hate* rap nowadays.
Hip-hop is indeed dead, IMHO. xD

raf and i agreed a while back that most anything eminem does is not meant to be taken seriously.
and actually in retrospect i kinda like him. i hated him when he was really popular cuz i thought he was annoying and tried too hard to get attention. then you really listen to his stuff and there is actually some art involved, especially his satire. it make you look twice and say 'hey yeah, theres a reason he was praised'.
the old hip-hop was actually good when it made a statement (like public enemy or tupac). it was a poetry reading backed by a beat, and was before someone stopped taking art seriously. it was once beautiful, powerful and created any emotion like music would. some would say it was an aquired taste.
its these idiots like soulja boy who just come up with something lame for the sake of a new 'dance craze' (which worked, oddly enough) that the veteran rappers have called out 'newer' rappers on how terrible it has become. its like you can put any words to a half-assed beat and its considered music.
its really no different than music. there are the artists who are manufactured, self-imposed, serious, genius, satirical or flash-in-the pan.
but to answer the question, i think it is dying. you just dont get any type of music like you used to. since the mid 90s, it seems like a LOT of music has gone to the shitter, since the pop manufactured bands came out, its almost like anyone who sets themselves up with an accompaning track and some type of lyrics, its considered music. it discredits the real artists who are out there- that goes for hip hop or any genre.

oh my god -_-
my brother changed it to MTV and we saw one of the most retarded music videos EVER!
It was called Donk and it's by Soulja Boy.....
I didn't know whether to laugh or cry
I mostly laughed, a lot
Another question from my brother:
Who is the greatest rapper of all time?
My answer: Tupac
He was able to change up his style every now and then and lots of his songs had meaning.
Favorite songs: Changes, Hit Em Up, California Love
worst person in the music industry: Soulja Boy
