Now that we have the final Cosmos Rocks artwork (which I really like by the way and will look great on the vinyl sleeve), it begs the question as to what the original artwork was bothered with for? (the one that was used for the tour promo stuff and that is still on the official website).
The old artowrk was obviously something deliberated over, designed, and created especially cos it's more than just a photo of the artist. Is it just that they have gone with that to be used i all the general promo stuff, and the album sleeve will be used just exactly as that - the album sleeve and nothing more?

Question: Have you ever even seen the old albums? For they have the same cheesy, tongue in cheek stuff that Cosmos Rocks have. Just look at Jazz, The Works, Sheer Heart Attack, A Night at the Opera.

I think people have missed your point. I wonder if the negative reaction to the original 'Cosmos' artwork caused them to go with alternative pictures. Or maybe it was always going to be just a filler/teaser?

I'd suppose this particular artwork was simply designed to promote the tour, and not the album?!
They have done that before actually and if I remember it right, the promo-stuff for the Crazy Tour f.e. had a totally unique design-scheme as well and wasn't in any way related to the current album-artwork (Jazz or whatever it was) of the time.

I don't mind the concept, I just think the execution sucks balls.
Having said that, I guess the starfield couldn't have looked too good or people would've just gone "hey that's like the hyperspace in Star Wars".

my opinion was that it was never acctualy meant to be the cover art. ( I could be wrong, I just never saw anything official)
That original image was set to be a tour poster, and retailers started using it by thier own accord, because it was all they had.

Spot on! I think the initial replies did miss that I was basically questioning whether the early (and current website) artwork was not kept for the abum due to any public pressure, or maybe they just changed their mind, or if it was never intended for the album.
