I'd go for A kind of Magic, The Miracle or Innuendo next if you want more commercial stuff. Also from The Works or Greatest Hits 2 the song Hammer to Fall is a cracker, one of my favourites and one of Brian Mays finest hours(You mentioned you like guitar) You'd find a lot of these songs on you tube to have a listen before you go out and buy an album

If you want a great document of Queen's over-the-top Jazz tour shows, Live Killers is a great place to start. It also offers incredible versions of "Now I'm Here" (a straight rocker similar to "Cosmos Rockin'") and "Brighton Rock" (the infamous Brian May guitar solo). Some other songs, notably "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Get Down, Make Love", don't sound so good.
As for their studio albums, Sheer Heart Attack is my personal favorite, but I've always believed that Queen II embodies what they were as a band in the 1970s, before "Hot Space" happened. That's not to say they didn't make some great songs in the '80s, but for me, Queen is first and foremost a rock band, and Queen II is the best document of their progressive rock origins.

Went on youtube last night and found "Hammer To Fall" live as someone suggested. Wow!! What a song, I can't believe I've never heard this before. The guitar is amazing.

he's John Deacon, Queen's Bass player untill 1999(ish).
If you like Brian May's guitar you might want a live album, like live at Wembley (that is the concert that the hammer to fall video you saw on youtube is from).
Made in Heaven is drowning in guitar too, but I don't know if that’s the best place to start a collection. Listen to a few songs on Youtube first.

I would really suggest you listened to Sheer Heart Attack (Album). Jazz has a lot of rock songs and great guitar playing from Brian May. Some people think it doesnt hold together as an album as good as some of the other albums but it makes up for this with having lots of individually great songs.
Sheer Heart attack and a day at the races Id imagine are good places to start aswell. Some of the their other albums might seem a little strange to a new listener.:)

any new person to Queen should listen to the first three CD's; try and study the background and inspiration behind the lyrics, most unlike the later songs written. You will be surprised where inspiration comes from.
see if you can find out which song was inspired by a painting in the Louvre - if that's not artistic expression (good job Fred)

I fell in love first with the masterpiece that A Night At The Opera is. But I can't say this should be a starter for everyone. The Greatest Hits I, II and III are a good place to start, but of course they fail to encompass the true diversity of Queen. I keep thinking that had I listened first to the Greatest Hits rather than to A Night At The Opera, I don't believe they'd have made such an amazing impression on me...
So, dear friend, try to listen as much as possible if you can. Queen are very diverse and each album is a different world in itself. Try not to be prejudiced against old music. Old music who has stood the test of time is worth a listen, take my word for it.

Do what many of the "new" Queen fans did in 1991 & when Freddie died, start with Greatest Hits II, I would recommend buying it on CD because it will tell you which single is from which album & then hunt the albums down, oh I'm feeling generous I'll do it now (& I'm wide awake)

Once you have these two compilations (avoid Hits III as it is a total rip off but that's a different story)you can see which albums produced the most singles, & you will notice Hot Space has only one which reflects the general opinion it was Queens worst album which to me it was.
Yet here's the contradiction "Las Palasbras De Amor" a single from it should have been included as it charted in the UK at number 17. Yet that didn't stop "The Miracle" or "I'm Going Slightly Mad" being included numbers 21 & 22 on the Hits II & to me it is the best song on the album ref Hot Space
As a rule the 1980's Queen were very commercial especially 1984-86 (Hot Space's failure most likely prompted this)
3/4 "works" singles charted top 10, "Hammer To Fall" the exception & this trend continued with "One Vision" & "A Kind of Magic in 1985 & 1986
After the 3 year chart hiatus "I Want It All" in 1989 rocked to number 3 & it's top notch don't listen to "the miracle album haters". Breakthru carried on to number 7 in the same year.
Even though the "innuendo" singles didn't chart too highly the title track deserved to hit number 1, technically speaking so did "These are the days of our lives" when it was coupled with bo-rhap as a tribute to Freddie xmas 1991
With regards to 70's "A Night at The Opera" is pretty much essential & i would start there & your curiosity will make you want to own a very similar titled album "A Day at The Races" & see the differences there isn't many really both excellent.

"News of The World" I personally think its very underrated & I would buy it for two songs alone "It's Late" by Brian & "My Melancholy Blues" by Freddie the last two songs on the album.
