first match in charge will be against Scotland,should be an intersesting reception at Hampden....
will probably get cheered for the 'hand of God' against England but then again he is an Argie and the Falklands are still fresh in the mind with the Scots part of the army/navy,anyway i shall now willingly watch a Scotland football match next month on Sky and those words dont come out of my mouth very often
and the qualification for this job? a 4 month stint as a coach back in the mid 90's plus rehab and hospital stays for drug addiction and alcoholism.

Gifted player, yes. Role model, not so much.
Maradona was indeed the best player of the 80s, but to see him as the kind of player whose sportsmanship is worth emulating, certainly he falls short and by far behind his incredible skill.
I personally doubt that Maradona would make a good coach. A good coach must have a good history of leadership, and discipline. I've read a couple of Maradona biographies, including the one Maradona himself wrote, and he certainly didn't give a good example to his fellow team mates by showing up late (or not showing up at all to practices), as well as several incidents of violence on the field. Daniel Passarella was very critical of Maradona's antics, but thanks to Maradona's outstanding talent many of these incidents went ignored.
However, I shouldn't be so quick to praise Passarella, because he went a bit too far as discipline goes when he made players cut their hair. I'm wondering why Argentina hasn't picked Carlos Bianchi, considering that he has a very successful coaching history with Boca Juniors.

oh hell! yes,i'd forgot that Butcher was in the England team [was he captain,i thinks he was...] when the cheating dirty Argie druggie punched the ball in the net back and knocked us out the World Cup in 86 [his 2nd goal doesnt count either just coz he ran half the pitch and made Peter Reid look a twat]. not that we English ever hold a grudge or anything :-p
