Right off the top of my head: songs played during soundchecks are a hint as to what the band might be working on for an actual stage performance later on. If the guys played "It's Late" during a soundcheck, wouldn't you want to know?

I thought I overheard a new song.  It went something like "Check one, check two, check check check"

In Vancouver, they played "Radio Ga Ga", "Red House", and "A Little Bit Of Love" during soundcheck. The last one wasn't played in the show, disappointingly. But at least I got to hear them play a bit of it :-)

When I see them next year, I'll try and record soundchecks when I'm able to, depending on the venue and if it's easy to hear them outside or not.

This only really makes sense to someone who's actually there, though.  By the time the show is over and the set list (and, where applicable, the sound check) have been shared, there isn't really any surprise.  Hehe.

how do you get to hear the soundcheck? and what time do the band normally arrive at the arena?

In Barcelona show started at 22h; at 18h I parked my car right next to the venue and the soundcheck was already going on. I could listen (perfectly) Still Burning, Paul doing bits of harmonica and Hammer To Fall.

But I guess it depends on the venue itself; as I could listen to the soundcheck perfectly in Barcelona, I couldn´t hear anything in Madrid ... and I was queing at the entrance door at 15h (show starting also at 22h) !!

Like queenside said, you can sometimes hear it near the box office/front entrances. Depends on the venue.

At the PNE Coliseum in Vancouver, you could even SEE them on the stage from the front doors!
Roger was wearing a striped shirt which was similar to the one he wore during the Magic Tour. Rather amusing, really.
