Why isn't there good music? What the hell happened?

I hate rap music and always will. I hate pop stars like Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake.

Can anyone give me a good music artist or band? I need to listen to new music.
It sucks because the record companies and the ones who own the media are purposely dumbing down people and taking away creativity from the masses. They want dumb people to buy mindless garbage music with no talent, its a generation brainwashing. We are moving towards a new world order.

Oh are we? *rolls eyes*

I'm going off popular music. Musicals are far better.
A couple of friends of mine really like The Brian Johnstown Massacre.

I think they got some really cool songs and they're great live too!

For once to lighten things up just a bit... There's always some good new music around. You just have to know where to look, and realize your own standards. Helps the search if you tell everyone your preferences. "Good music" doesn't count really.

In my case, I've been recently listening to artists like Esperanza Spalding, Richard Cheese, Stone Gods and a Finnish science-progfusion band called Kuha. (with the dot), and a lot of old and new J-pop, also having found a few favourites there: Yumi Matsutoya, X-Japan (some of you might recognize this one through Roger's collaboration with Yoshiki), Super Butter Dog, Polysics, YMCK and Ryuichi Sakamoto. None of these I would have found unless I had a few friendly recommendations.

So tell me, is it SO bad that your gov't is investing money in a small group of tweenagers, who are supposedly the world's biggest bestest band ever, that will be enforcing this new world order by way of SUCH AWESOME MUSIC, yet you guys can't find time to stop in-fighting, find decent musicians, write and record decent songs, and *GASP* study MUSIC THEORY???

Oh my God I'm going to blow up! My life is SO full of void! TM is absolutely right! OOOOOOOOMMMMMMMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!
don't feed the trolls ... only little kids, not knowing what they're talkin' about ...
on the way since jazz ...
I waaaant to beeeee...

Ops, sorry!

Bye.
Queen rocks!
I guess POP (or read: hitlist-music) has always been crap for the most of it.
Like other posters above said: you just have to look behind the COMMERCIAL, music for the masses stuff.
Even in the 80's, a period I genuinely detest musically, there was great stuff being made under the surface.
It's the same right now; there are some MAJESTIC bands or acts out there that are making worthwhile, timeless art. And we, in this age, even have the advantage that even the most obscure stuff is just a click away.
So, my friend, just click a little deeper and find what you are looking for.

Veeeeery cool band. And of course their mates- The Dandy Warhols- are excellent too.

Another great band that I think even fickle Queen fans would appreciate are the Birds of Tokyo. The dudes voice ought to be heritage listed- it's brilliant.
Gentleman, you can't fight in here - this is The War Room!

Alright, Mr. Self-Proclaimed Enjolras.
Much as I'd hate to agree with the premise of any thread started by this prat, there is some truth to it.

Kid Rock.
There is also the even more worrisome thought of TM and SomebodyWhoLoves having found each other...
