I love this song. I have no idea who sang or wrote it, but it's very touching.

Lyrics of the song:

"Freddie" by Charlene

Freddie, be free from the pain
Is the world the same since you have gone away?
Hey,Freddie I'd go back if I could
Life was sure looking good with you here yesterday

We're afraid of things that we don't understand
Why did you close the show
It just began

Did you feel that maybe you weren't loved enough
Or were you afraid of being loved too much

Freddie, there were clouds in your mind
But we all need some time to learn what we're about

Hey, Freddie
Dreams don't come ready made
If you only had stayed we'd have worked it out

I believed it all the things that love can do
And you believed in love
But not in you

No,I never? had a chance to say goodbye
Please forgive me
But there's something in my eye
What the HELL??

This song was written in 1977. LOL. It sure makes a perfect Tribute Song for Freddie Mercury, doesn't it? weird.

I found this to confirm the Wikipedia article: http://www.discogs.com/release/1255893.

I don't know who's the Freddie referred to in the song, but it is very appropriate for "our" Fred. A beautiful song.
Oh cool, my very own thread!
The "Freddie" from Mott The Hoople's 'All the Young Dudes" also is our Freddie

Look at the lyrics: "Freddie's got spots from ripping off the stars from his face"

Freddie's got spots definately is a reference to the spots you get when you're suffering from AIDS.

Also Barry Manilows "Freddie Said" is about our Freddie:

"Freddie looks at the shadow
of a body with a shrug
there's Slapsie layin' deader
then an ugly fire plug"

The shadow Freddie looks at is the shadow of the man that gave him the AIDS somewhere in the first part of the 80s. The Ugly Fire Plug is ofcourse a metaphor for the infected penis.
"On the first day Pim & Niek created a heavenly occupation. Pim & Niek blessed it and named it 'Loosch'." (Genesis 1:1)
All jokes aside, I think that this is a far more fitting tribute song to Freddie.  I remember it being on the radio on the day that he died and honest to God, I broke down crying when I heard it.  When you hear this song you get a real, palpable feeling for the loss that his death really was.

That explains why Queen included this as the penultimate track on Made in Heaven. Queen's version's better, though.

And, Zebonka, you wasted such a perfect opportunity for a rickroll.
I know, but there's some things you just don't joke about, and tributes to Freddie are such a topic.
