HEALTH and safety fears could prevent a statue of Queen singer Freddie Mercury coming to Edinburgh.
Problems have arisen in finding a place to put a 19ft bronze statue of the star that will not cause problems for pedestrians and motorists in Edinburgh.
The plan was to display the 680kg tribute on the pavement outside the Edinburgh Playhouse, before the planned production of We Will Rock You in November.
Local businesses welcomed the plan, but council leaders have said it could block pedestrians going to and from the venue, on Leith Walk, and might prove to be a distraction to people driving past.
Pam Blyth, the marketing manager of the Edinburgh Playhouse, said: "We thought it would be fun to get it out in the open. But we're right on a busy main road, so we're quite limited in what we can do.
"It would be such a shame not to have him there. It's a symbol of Freddie Mercury and an important part of the show."

I have a vision of fatty crashing into the Freddie statue...

More to the point; can someone get the location up on Google Earth for me?? Ha-ha. Surely there's a nearby spot that they can ... er ... erect the statue?

I agree it's a health hazard. In fact the whole musical makes me sick.

I saw the musical last year in London. It`s not a masterpiece, but Istick to the view that the more the propaganda the better. If more people hear Queen`s songs even by other singers the more interest there will be in the original songs and music. I liked the musical but I didn`t like the plot.

Go to www.google.com and click on "maps" on top of the page
Type Leith Walk Edinburgh into the search bar
When the map appears choose "satellite" in the map settings. You can zoom in and move around, no need to use Google Earth

Indeed, I thought of that a bit later. Looking at it this way, I guess they have a point. Still, there ought to be some place they can put the thing...
