This isn't one of them... he sounds better at this show than in the December shows with great quality.

Indeed, 16/11/78 for example was actually a very good show from him. I wish we had a great quality recording for that one!

Yes, but my ears tell me that he sounds like his standard of end '78... that is not much good. Isn't it?

thanks for this! here we have one remarkable thing: quality of performance, and quality of sound are two entirely different things.

I guess it depends on what aspect of the vocal performance we're talking about. His range wasn't the best on the Jazz tour overall, but it's all about what he did with it... the Vancouver show provides great insight on how creative he was when his range was lacking.

You're very right about that! And Vancouver is truly a brilliant brilliant show. He did wonderful things with what he had that night in terms of range and Brian was playing at his very best. Good examples of Freddie interpreting songs in a new manner are his versions in Vancouver of It's late and Spread your wings. That version of Spread your wings is my favourite for that reason. I should listen to Toronto again but I think he was pretty good during that show too. Chicago and Montreal were surely the 2 shows where he was 'worst'.
What do you guys think about the early 1979 shows(Live Killers).
I would like to nominate another show from another era in this category of 'Freddie making up for lack of range with creativity': Osaka 15/5/85. I recommend his versions of STL and It's a hard life, full of passion.
There are many other shows where he sings certain lines so wonderfully! But there are unfortunately also many moments where his range is not great and he doesn't try to make up for it...and then you get a lazy perfomance. Some songs suffer more than others, for example KQ could have been much more exciting at many times.
And let's not forget he had shows where his voice was both in great shape and Freddie in a creative mood:-)

Very interesting comments my friends and I also think that performance of Osaka 1985 was one of the most creative for Freddie.
PS. Thank you SirGH for the Vancouver information... I didn't know about the performance.

i am the person who recorded this show and as far as i know the only recording that excists,if there is another let me know,i was sitting only about 50 feet from the stage on brians side infront of the PA,as you can tell from the sound distortion,i still have the orginal tape which now is 31 years old ampex tape and back in the day was played many many times on different players, which im sure contributes to its condition,of sound quality which it now has,but i was a great show, even took pictures which ill try and post, thanks for all of you enjoying this classic show

Nice to hear from you here. Thanks a million for taping and letting it out.
There apparently is another source of this show. Feel free to get in touch with me through my website queenlive.ca, and I'll keep you posted about its status.
Is this the only Queen show you taped?
