Excuse my ignorance but are these real time transfers or file conversions of some kind? Can the original menus be ripped as well?
Are "realtime transfers" and "file conversions" mutually exclusive? Not sure I understand what you mean by the terms.
If it's not on a Laserdisc anymore, then there's definitely been a file conversion, irrespective of whether it was done in real or fake time, surely?
Thanks for replying. What I was trying to say is, what is the recognised way of 'ripping' a laserdisc to dvd?
Is this guide as simple as it gets for a quality conversion?

Or
Will the result be nearly as good if I hook up a dvd recorder with macrovision disabled? Only problem here is I will be restricted to PAL source discs only.
A friend asked me if I could back up some of his discs to dvd, some of them are NTSC some PAL. Some are on as many as 3 discs! They aren't out on dvd otherwise he would probably buy them again. His laserdisc player is sitting in the loft gathering dust, seems a shame.
