I know I'm asking a lot, but does anyone remember which of the following two dates they played the 20 second preview of "I Want it All"?
22nd April 1989, or 29th April 1989?

Thanks,
D

It was whichever day that was the weekend of the fan club convention (around that time used to be the last weekend in April so probably 29th - it was the one they had at Camber Sands) as I remember Jacky announcing that loads of people had been moaning at her that the chart show had a queen exclusive and had shown a snippet on that weeks show. Then the place went wild as Jacky announced well they had about 30 seconds of it but we've got the whole thing and then proceeded to play it about 10 times over the rest of the weekend.

In which case it'd be the 22nd I think.

That's a great start guys, but you both seem to be conflicting on the 2 dates!

Does anyone know precisely the date of that years convention then please?

I've got the clip on VHS somewhere, so can dig it out and see if I wrote the date on the label (I usually did!)

If I recall correctly (and it's possible I don't!), they played different clips 2 weeks in a row, with the second week not being the full song, but a bit longer than the first time.

If it helps, the clip I recall seeing is towards the end where you simply had the boys repeating "I Want It All" with nothing but the drums. It was shown as part of the "next week" preview at the end of the show.

The day that was shown was the day I met my best friend, and as it's now 20 years later I just wanted to get the exact date!

and i initially thought you were looking for the different cut ! ;-)

(anyone actually knows if there was an "early edit" in the chart show? i know part of  'breakthru' was shown as a different edit, not sure about IWIA - DoRo used to cut different working versions of videos, while i never heard/seen a David Mallett alternative edit - he prefers to release final cuts only!  )
