I'm listening to the new album, and I'm truly loving it.
It's not as techno heavy as I expected it to be, but it's still beautifully crafted.
I love it as much as 'Playing The Angel'.

I liked it a lot, but I have to admit I haven't listened to their recordings for some time already. I liked "question of lust", "strange love", "master and servant", "people are people", "behind the wheel" and, above all, "enjoy the silence", "policy of truth", "somebody" and "blasphemous rumours".
These I can sing whenever I want without missing the lyrics. I may lose friends, but I don't miss the lyrics!
I like the guy's singing, he has a beautiful voice.
So, I didn't know they had issued a new album, so thank you very much for the thread and for the tip!!!!
Thank you, really. I'll look out for it.
By the way, have you ever listened to Tori Amos' gorgeous, absolutely stunning version of "enjoy the silence"? If you don't, DO IT NOW! It's seriously good. I love her work, I'm really not the best person to recommend her albums because I'm a huge fan, but this is really good.
I like New Order too. I don't know why I always remember New Order when I listen to Depeche Mode. Fuzzy mind, mine.
Thanks!!!!!!
Take care, I'll give it a listen and then I tell you.
I'll put "playing the angel" the play, rowww!!

I'm glad that I'm not the only one here who likes DM. :-)
Btw Yara, I really like Tori Amos' cover of 'Enjoy The Silence', and it's indeed a gorgeous one.
While we are on the subject I might advice you to stay away from Hilary Duff's version of 'Personal Jesus', it's just horrendous.
I love New Order as well. I actually like them more than Joy Division, and it's a shame that Ian Curtis died so young.

I love DM, even their "new" stuff like their last album Playing the Angel. But this album is IMO shit. I´ve given it a couple of run-thoughs and I can´t really say it´s growing on me. It has a two, maybe three decent songs, "Wrong" being one of them.
Maybe it´s the same three songs Dave Gahan wrote and Martin Gore really lost it. Anyhow, Fletch is still the coolest guy ever.
I´ve read somewhere it´s their first sober album. Thank fuck for alcohol!

That was my reaction to 'Exciter', and for many years I ignored the album until a few years ago I started giving it a chance and it's not that bad.

Hi, Mr. Jingles.
I can't thank you enough for the precious tip you gave. I entered the record store in the weekend bearing your advice in mind and looking out for some other albums which people had recommended me. I listened a bit to the other albums some people had told me about, but DM's "Sounds of the Universe" was the only one I really felt like deserving a better and more careful listening. So I got it.
I have been listening to it and, what can I say?, I just loved it. It does remind me of the old-days of DM here and there, but it's now a much better and much more exciting and sophisticated band. I was just thrilled by the beautiful arrangements and the fantastic vocals by Gahan. I liked him as a singer already, but, wow, he has improved a whole lot.
I was immediatly blown away by the album's first song, "In Chains". From then on, it was pure joy: "Peace" must be now one of my favorite DM's songs and "Perfect" is a fantastic tune and ranks up there as well. Gore does a great job on "Jezebel" and "Fragile Tension" reminded me of the old days, but was also a sign to me of how much they improved as musicians.
The album doesn't rely on worn out clichés nor counts on nostalgia to appeal to fans , I think, and yet it still bears DM's distinctive mark. It's a great mix and compromise between trying to put out a different sound while retaining their basic inspiration.
I loved it, I really loved it.
Thanks a lot for the tip.
Take care.
Hug,
Yara.
P.S.: As much as I respect Hillary Duff, I can't think of her singing "Personal Jesus". She's good at what she does, I think, and delivers sucessfully what many people expect from her, but she doesn't seem like the singer who'd do a good rendition of this song. So I guess I'll follow this advice of yours too. :-)))))

Hey Yara, by any chance are you going to see DM in Brazil?
I just found that they are going to be in Sao Paulo in October.

Hi, Mr. Jingles!
I hope you're doing great.
Ah, I sure will! I enjoy going to concerts in general, but much more so if it's a band I enjoy and, on top of that, touring with material I just loved.
I'm in for a treat, I'm sure. I'm gonna have a lot of fun.
Today is holiday here, but it wasn't possible for me to leave the campus so I'm pretty much between the devil and the deep blue sea, the books and the computer. :) It's been fun, though, the website is just lovely, a lot of good threads throughout and many interesting concerts being shared on the board. Unfortunately I can't download those now, but I want to try some whenever I can.
I had more time free and I listened a lot to DM's album today. I just loved it, I'm really hooked on it. I can't wait to attend their concert, it'll be the first time I get to see them, so it's very exciting.
Way to go!
THANKS A LOT, Mr. Jingles. Great tip, great thread. The album brought a lot of joy, it's great to listen to.
Take care, ok? And I wish you well!

I'm very glad that you'll be going to see DM Yara!
This will be their first time in South America since 1994, I believe.
You will have tons of fun. I've seen DM already once, and twice more this summer.
Experiencing the gig in Brazil must be awesome considering that South America has the best crowds. They will for sure sing along to all the songs, or at least the big hit singles.
