Bottom line is, CD-Rs are not expected to last long, I recommend to run a backup of 'em every 6/8 years (mostly for Silver CD-Rs of course)

Permanent markers are commonly used to mark the label side of CD-Rs and DVDs. This practice has been discouraged because it is believed xylene and toluene, common substances in permanent marker ink, can cause surface deterioration. Additionally, volatile organic compounds may be released which will remain inside the enclosed atmosphere of a CD-R's storage box, causing harm.

Thanks for the interesting post. This part was news to me... makes sense though!

My pleasure ;-)
I had bad experiences with perm markers in the past using silver Verbatim CD-Rs (8/9 years ago)

Yeah, I'd always suspected this might be a problem - particularly the VOCs. Looks like the best bet is a lightscribe drive...

Awesome artwork, Alex.
But we must be aware that putting stickers on CDRs will slowly destroy the data over time.

What about printable CDs ? I usually use printable media and print directly on them, is it a good idea ? Or will I find it out in a few years ? :-)

If you ever lose yours, I give you mine. I send you also in the package one of the ribbons I use for you to remember me.

Thank you very much for the share. I am late but at the moment unable to follow the downloads. I will download this one, though! Have you compared your compilation to the 4 disc Wardour release "Especially Milan" ?

Thank you very much for the offer. I think I have them somewhere, I'll try to search more and if needed I'll try to write you an e-mail.

What about printing directly on the discs? Like I do.
Anyway the discs are getting cheaper, so I would just make a new one if necessary. I also protect the picture with lacquer (hope it's the right word).
Great covers from both of you and I'm always very happy when I find labels as well[/img]
So thank you for the share and the artwork.
EDIT: Just got to page three, so it has been answered.
