The version that was shared in Bokkepoot's 1980 torrent doesn't include lineage.

The bokkerpot's share you refer to is identical with the maggiko foka's post from four months ago. You will find lineage and an extensive discussion there.
So the lossless master is available both at rapidshare and as torrent.
A lossless share is always welcomed but what has your version different, except the track splitting ?

Maggiko Foka's version had been retracked and Save Me had been removed from the share. Sir GH was kind enough to supply his version of Save Me but that, of course, came from the un-retracked version. This is problematic as you effectively have a concert which is a hybrid of two sources - one of which has no definitively known lineage. We can not say for sure what the lineage of MF's share was because if it's been retracked then who knows what else has happened to it.

This is for certain a better share as it (presumably) comes from one source with a definitive lineage.

Ah yes. You're right! It's corrected now.

I see it is one inch closer to the source, at least in credentials if not in audio quality.

However, if a hiss reduction is applied, would not be appropriate to label it REMASTER, and save the MASTER label for the flat transfer of the tape ?

A hiss reduction, even a nicely done one as in this case, is a subjective treatment from the category of "who knows what else has happened to it" as Tim say.

Yup, you're probably right. However, as Sir GH points out on his site, this is one of the very rare occasions where a hiss reduction actually makes a recording sound better - much better in fact.

Does the raw master still exist?

I do have the master from the taper, but honestly, the tape hiss is brutally bad.

So indeed, the title "lossless master" is misleading, because it's not the master copy.  Even if it wasn't hiss reduced, it still wouldn't be the master, as it's a digital copy of it... hence the need for lineage.

This "master", "first gen", "second gen" lingo has to go.  What are we referring to - cassettes, DAT, reels?  This is why lineage is so important, not the convenience of using few words.

Indeed. Lineage is important. The term "lossless master" is used only as a quick reference in the title of this topic so that people can see with one blink of the eye wether they are interested in a download or not.
Full details can be found in the lineage wich is included (and should always be included). That's why I started this topic in the first place.
