Brian May after missing tracks from Hammersmith'75 for DVD release

Brian May has announced on his soapbox that the old Hammersmith'75 video has been restored and will soon be released officially, but Seven Seas Of Rhye, See What A Fool I've Been and God Save The Queen are only available in audio format.

According to him, even stills from that portion of the concert would be nice to have, and there will be a prize for anyone who can provide material for the new release.

It seems that the request is a direct result of people asking him if the encore section would be included.  It's good that the request has been made, and hopefully the footage will come to light, but a shame that, in my opinion, they wouldn't have made the effort and considered asking if Brian hadn't been prompted.

Just goes to show that it is important to ask and to remark, even to QP.

There are some stills in REPFOTO.COM. Freddie is using his flowered shirt from early gigs in two of the shots and  I wonder if the footage shown in the "KILLER QUEEN" documentary is related somehow to the Hammersmith venue. What do you think?

It may afterall be complete bollocks that someone has decided to make up that the last songs were still filmed by one camera.

Unfortunately the photos by Robert Ellis at Repfoto are from the 1st December concert at the Hammersmith Odeon and not the 24th.

I've never seen anyhting other than people saying "Maybe.....?" in a hopeful tone.  If a bunch of people clinging to a possibility makes it a rumour, then there's a [b]rumour[/b] that Knebworth was recorded professionally.

Let's look at the evidence.  The usual story goes that after the RnR medley, the camera crew packed their stuff away and left, but one camera was left running.

1.  If it was, nobody was operating it - there's no way a cameraman would have worked on in those days - unions wouldn't have allowed it. 

2.  So if there was a camera left on, there is [b]one[/b] camera angle to be used - best case scenario is that it's the wide shot of the stage, worst case is that it's the piano camera, in which case it's hardly worth bothering with - 30 seconds of Freddie and the odd shot of John against his amp.

3.  In order to release this one camera angle, they'd try and add interest by zooming in and panning about.  But this would be digital zooming, and we all know how rubbish that makes pictures look.

4.  Even if it was filmed, where's the footage going to have gone?  The cameras weren't recorded independently, there was a mix done at the time and the broadcast was recorded (presumably either at source or back at the BBC.  Once they've started packing away the cameras, wouldn't they a) stop recording, b) pack away the recorder (if on site)?

5.  Then, even if it was recorded, tapes were expensive, archiving methods weren't great and many tapes were reused by the BBC.

6.  Why would this happen anyway? A group of cameramen are told to stop filming, pack away, we'll meet by the van in 10 minutes, etc.  So even if one guy decided not to bother, his mates would have been along eventually to collect the camera and get home to their families for Xmas.

To conclude, I believe no footage will turn up because I believe none exists.  However I would be dlighted to be proved wrong*

A DVD/CD release would cover all bases: the DVD would have the show up to the encore, and the CD could feature the whole show including the encore. Hope they take some care and effort on the packaging, with a proper booklet setting out the history of the show and some decent pictures.

And please please please release it as it was shown on the BBC: don't let the Torpedo Twins anywhere near it.

Totally agree; just as they did with Montreal adding Flash/The Hero in the CD.

I suspect we'll end up with a picture gallery accompanying the unfilmed part.

I Think it is good news they are going to realese some stuff from the 70's   there is lot about them out there from the 80's so the 70 stuff will be good news   got to remember that people no more of there early stuff than the late stuff  as the massive selling of there first greatest hit's proves this

also herd that they are realeasing a dvd greatests hit's 3 soon   well looking forward to that.

end of the day we all must agree that bno matter what the put out it is always good stuff.
