Yes, if the software you play them with is good. MIDI-files contain nothing more than note-information, which is processed by a software synthesizer. The General Midi synth that comes with Windows is not very good, but using the right equipment, MIDI files can be great. In fact, MIDI tracks are used very extensively for backing tracks on a great many recordings, including Queen's later work.

...well, yes. But I try my best not to think of that. My sense of honour and the concept of using recorded backgrounds on stage do not mix well.
