Another "Who has bigger balls" thread ?

I don't like Michael Jackson's music, but I think he has done the most fantastic videos I have ever seen.
I love Queen's music but I think that ALL their videos suck

For the most part, yeah. But the Innuendo video is a masterwork.

yea, but a lot of pop stars are overated  IMO, michael is overated, but not as a dancer. The man could dance, though that style isn't for me.

Most of the pop / rock music videos show the band / performer mime to the album / single audio, they simply pretend they're playing it. It's not only Queen problem, it's a very general problem, that's why I stopped watching music videos regularly cca 10 years ago - I've been once a huge MTV fan. They're simply boring.

Innuendo is great, something very interesting and visually impressive. The same goes for Slightly Mad, Bohemian Rhapsody, Break Free and Ga Ga and maybe some other videos which I can't remember right now.

But Michael Jackson didn't shoot only "music videos", he shot also "mini movies". Just watch the full versions (e.g. on YouTube) of Black Or White, Ghosts, Thriller, Speed Demon, Remember The Time, Bad  ... it's simply a pleasure to watch the stuff (even when I DON'T like the music very much !)

That's what I tried to write originally :)

To me it's unimportant (at least in the case of Queen) that they happen to be miming.  We all know how much they hate videos in the studio...
I don't mind a video if it's well filmed.  Breakthru, The Miracle and These Are The Days of Our Lives are wonderful looking videos, although I wish that Debbie person wasn't in Breakthru.  She's kind of pointless.
Jackson was hit and miss with me musically if I'm honest whereas Queen just seem more consistent in terms of making good tracks imo. As for whether Jackson was overrated or not well it depends on whether you were a hard core fan of him or not doesn't it I suppose ?

Even though I am a Michael Jackson fan, I feel like he is totally overrated as an entertainer compared to Freddie. Does anyone else agree here.

A lot of people have been suggesting that Michael Jackson is "the greatest entertainer of all time." While I agree that he made some really great videos, he is not even in the same league as Freddie as a live performer. I recently saw a Michael Jackson concert, and I simply did not see the level of audience participation that you would see at a Queen concert. Although a lot of people were fainting and falling over during the M.J. concert, the crowd as a whole did not really seem engaged. I also did not hear the crowd singing along much. Furthermore, Michael Jackson is just not in the same league as Freddie when it comes to vocals.

Well, I was wondering about why anyone why Michael Jackson seems to get so much credit when there are so many more entertainers who are are clearly better at playing for large audiences.

Well when i was younger I use to have that mindset, no one was better than freddie, blah, blah, blah. anyway michael jackson was awesome, especially as a child, he was an amazingly gifted singer. his voice was breathtaking. as he got older he evolved his vocals to include lots of influences (included Freddie, maybe if you listened to anyone other thn Queen you'll notice stuff like that) and was a great all around rock, r and b, pop vocalist. His dancing was absolutely genius I love this video (never mind the lipsynching) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5L3KDOzAqc dude could hold a crowd, most were just in awe...that was a silly comment saying michael jackson couldnt hold a crowd like Freddie. I'm overwhelmed at how ridiculous of a statement that was, dude had people fainting at concerts at the site of him. most people were just in awe and wanted to see what he would do next. It was a different than at Queen shows and is like comparing apples to mashed potatos actually.

Hmm... is it possible to compare two completely different performers, and two different styles?!  I love both, obviously I personally like Queen more or I'd be on an MJ forum.  Performance-wise, I don't know, I've only seen one complete MJ concert film, and I wasn't too impressed with the way it filmed, which makes it difficult to judge.  I don't, or instance, see what the point of lots of videos of people fainting - was it to show how great he was, or what?  I found it distracting.  But I loved his performance.  I find Freddie mesmerising to watch, but can also watch Michael for ages.  Video-wise, its also difficult to compare, they're totally different.  I love both, but Michael's were arguably better produced.  I mean, look at Scream, you can feel it!  (no pun intended)  But I love a lot of Queen videos too.  I think, if I'm objective and try not to feel too disloyal, I'd have to say that in my opinion Michael Jackson's videos are better, but I watch Queen ones a lot more, and love them more.  Btw, did anyone notice the similarity in the children's rooms in Invisible Man and Black or White?  Even the triangular thingies on the wall!  :)
Also, kdj2hot, thanks for the link, thats amazing, I hadn't seen it before!
And pittrek, i think the video for Crazy Little Thing is hilarious!  The way the girls are smiling!  It is so '80s!  These days they would NOT be smiling!  And the outfits, and the way Brian sticks out his tongue, and the GLASSES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  And the smug face on Freddie when his vest is torn!  I love it.  I don't think its meant to be funny though.

The only thing that kinda made me lose respect for MJ as a performer was that he lip-synched too much. I know it's a common practice when it comes to pop music with heavy dance routines, but actually I prefer to see a performer who sings live, and doesn't dance that much.

Michael actually danced and sang live for most of his carreer.  He only started to lip synch in the 90's, for health reasons, and the autopsy report shows (a lung problem, I think cronic inflamation).
