Greg: NEW QUEEN HIT in 2010?

Roger has mentioned Brian and himself might be touring in 2010.
I sure hope they do, because a couple of years ago I was present at the Afterparty of the WWRY Musical premiere in Cologne. There Brian and Roger performed together (Sleeping on the Sidewalk was one of the tracks) and it was an amazing experience.
Two life-time friends really having fun playing together in a relaxed way. I sure wish I can see it happen again.

As far as I know Queen is the only band (in the UK - in the world?) that has had number one hits in 4 decades.
So to make sure no other group will take that record away from Queen, the year 2010 would be a new decade in which Queen could have another number one hit.

Dear Greg, might there be a suitable original Queen (with all 4 members on it) track laying on the shelves waiting to be released in 2010?

(I think I know the answer but Greg asked us to come up with interesting subjects...)

can't think of anything else at the moment so... :-)

Hangman could be a hit.  I'm sure every Queen fan is waiting for it :)

I think Cliff Richard has had a #1 in five different decades?

if they do a christmas song next year ( I dream of Christmas) - they certainly would have a shot. with proper promotion that is!!!

Cliff Richard is not a band ;)

No, Greg won't answer because, firstly, it's not his idea and second, there's nothing in it for him.

You can almost hear the mad scrabbling through the shelves as we speak...

Good topic Rien, intersting thought

Greg once said he thought there was stuff in the archives that could be hit-worthy.
Whether or not that can be trusted is of course completely a mystery.  It would come down to his taste in music.  Or maybe he was just being cheeky and making stuff up.  Who knows.
Like any Queenrecord would sell these days... Even if it included an unreleased Freddy vocal I doubt it would set the charts alight. That doesn't mean an unreleased Queentrack with new instruments by Roger and Brian can't be great - but I don't think it will be the huge success MIH was in 1995.

I point blank refuse to believe that in a 20 year career, for a band as excellent as Queen, that there is NOTHING in the vaults worthy of release.

Ok, there have been lots of 'leaked' demos and diffferent versions etc. etc., but there still HAS to be tons of stuff untouched since they were left behind.

I am a musician myself, and I have about 25 songs I would include on albums, and more than twice that no. of tunes I have not finished, either thru not liking them, not knowing where to take them, or just forgetting the original demo even exists.

Queen MUST have a shit-ton of material lurking in the vaults somewhere.

Oh I'm sure there's tons of unused Queen songs, but they were probably unused for a reason.  Think about some of the trash they must've left off of "The Miracle", when you consider things like "Party" actually made the cut.  And that's just with one album.
Also, there's the great songs that simply weren't completed enough for even a MIH style reworking.  "You're the Only One", "Feelings", "A New Life Is Born", "It's So You", they all show lots of promise and have fantastic performances in them, but there's too much doo-dahs and la-lahs for them to ever be used as finished songs.  In the case of "Feelings" it's mostly finished sounding but a little too rough and stylistically it'd be completely out of place in 2009.

There's TONS of great demos that would make an awesome release someday, but I seriously doubt there's anything left that could be presented as a finished song and make any serious impact.
I do think that the only thing you really need is vocals of a couple of verses and a chorus (or no chorus).
The music can be completely new, so completely contemporary. Of course you'd have to stick to the chords that Freddie is singing in, but the overall sound of a song can be fresh and exciting!

Maybe some of us here on QZ are interested to try it out with an acapella already out there. Just for fun.
