BANGKOK - Scientists say the first one to have developed AIDS vaccine that the risk of the incurable disease to rise, limited. In one study, involving more than 16,000 people voluntarily cooperating in Thailand, showed the vaccine risk by over 31 percent reduction.

''For the first time demonstrated that a vaccine against HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, can protect against infection''said Colonel Jerome Kim of the U.S. military HIV program in the Thai capital Bangkok.
He spoke of''a very significant scientific progress''.

On examination of the U.S. Army and the Thai Ministry of Health working men and women, ranging in age from 18 to 30 years, from two provinces in Thailand along. None of them was infected with HIV. The vaccine is a combination of two earlier vaccines of infection appeared to reduce not individually, but obviously help, if they are merged.

I wondered about this too.  And in a place where there is such a huge sex trade, esp with kids, the 'voluntary' aspect of it could be questioned.  And to test it, volunteers (including those on placebos) would presumably have to risk infection.  Maybe the manufacturers figured this way they wouldn't have to infect the volunteers  with it?  Or maybe there are risks with it that would put someone who wasn't regularly forced to have unprotected sex off accepting the vaccine so they used a group who would take the lesser of two evils?  Hopefully I'm just bad-minded and they are lovely people who have the best interests of everyone in mind.
