It is still always nice to see Freddie getting appreciated, though it would be a bit more exciting if the company was stellar.
My 67 year old mother was a HUGE Elvis fan, and, saw him in concert many times. She has always listened to Queen, though not always by choice.[/img] A year or so ago, I played for her the Wembley clip of Queen doing FreddieRickieLittleRichard, and, she exclaimed that she'd no idea Freddie had such a beautiful voice(somehow, to HER, Freddie singing, "You're So Square," live was far superior to him singing Bo Rhap on the album) . Hee...hee! Mom went on to say that Freddie did Elvis live better than Elvis did Elvis live. I found the whole exchange delightful.
I love such stories here :)

It's a shame Freddie didn't cover any Jackie Wilson or Sam Cooke. :( Would've loved to hear Freddie sing "Reet Petite".
Oh yeah, compare Queen's "You're So Square" to the horrible Led Zeppelin version:

Robert Plant was a great singer, but not in Freddie and some others' league.
The thing with Robert is that he's limited with the range. He has absolutely powerful voice, and he's the best in his field. But his range restricts him. When Freddie's voice more flexible.

Plant at his peak had a range that rivalled or perhaps surpassed Freddie's, but his nodules and smoking subsequently debilitated him farther than Freddie. He never really recovered. :( That's why he sounds so bad on the FM Tribute Concert.
On the other hand, Ian Gillan(Deep Purple) can sing almost as well as he could in his prime even now.

I loved Misfits when I was younger, but I have never really listened to Danzig. I have a question, a while back I heard a song in my friends car that really reminded me of Misfits, it had some Johnny Cash references in the melody and lyrics, and watching this posted video with Danzig it sounded alot like Glenn Danzig. Do you know what song I'm thinking of? Would really help cause I'm driving myself crazy 'cause I really can't remember the lyrics or anything... Thanks!
Was it a punk or metal song? Glenn Danzig wrote a song called "Thirteen" for Johnny Cash which Cash recorded on one of his albums and subsequently Glenn himself recorded a version. But I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for.
Off-topic, but I noticed you live in Kiruna. I lived in Sweden for 4 years and went to Kiruna once as well, staying for a month. It was in the middle of the year when the sun did not set for 10-12 consecutive days. Definitely one of the coolest experiences of my life!

It was a punk-song, definitely not Johnny Cash singing, it really sounded like Glenn Danzig, oh well sure I'll hear it someday again...
Off-topic, Kiruna is a really cool place if you like nature, it's really a city in the middle of wilderness. In summer we have 50 days when the sun never sets and in winter the sun doesn't come over the horizon for like 40 days, pitch black all day and all night :D Well, the days when the sun never sets is better than the days we don't see it at all.

Well "Thirteen" was re-recorded by Danzig himself on one of his albums. Look it up on YouTube.

No it's not Thirteen, good song tho. I've searched google for it and it seems that it's not Danzig although it really sounds like Danzig or Misfits... Well, thanks for the help anyway!

Well, I just found the song I was talking about. Embarassed to say it was definitely not Danzig or anything, it was danish group Volbeat with song "Sad man's tongue". Funny how my memory works. Well, enough researching. Now I'm off for birthday drinks and singing ;D

Some of my favorite moments of wembley were those cover songs. Freddie should have sang more of those type of songs in the studio. The great pretender was a great one.

Freddie is definitely the greatest singer there is. His timbre is nonpareil. The only other persons with such a delectable tone I can think of are Jim Morrison and Glenn Danzig.

Sorry for bringing up such an old post, but had to write to say I 100% agree.
Freddie and Glenn Danzig have the best voices in rock n roll, in my humble opinion. I would have killed killed killed to have heard them do a song together.
