Here's a couple of questions in the Tribute Concert Context...
(Sorry if it's been answered/posted before)
a) Scorpions. Were they scheduled to play in the set list? If yes, what was their numberrrr?
If not, why were they present in the Champions finale?
b) I sort of remember some documentary footage where a tribute set list was seen and "Magic" was in it. Am I correct in this?
It's not that this is particularly interesting, but sometimes I remember stuff... Surely you get that too.
Sorry to have called you Shirley... (Airplane joke)
Cheers and thanks in advance...

AKOM was going to be sung by Roger if I rememeber correctly but because the show was running late (mostly due to tech probs with Spinal Tap I think), they cut it out.
Not sure on Scorpions. Some else might know

Not only AKOM was skipped, if I remember well, Sweet Child Of Mine by Guns n Roses was also on the original setlist.
Scorpions was there as a 'spare' band. Same for Billy Squier. He was also at the stage during the finale.

As far as I know, the Scorpians were not asked to play.
I do know at one point Gary Glitter wanted to appear.
(Shudders!)

Asked not to play on the night, or in advance? If on the night, for what reason? Due to it overunning?

The Scorpions were in fact a "spare band" in case Guns 'n Roses should not play. There were security concerns because GNR had received death threats before the concert. Slash spoke about that in an MTV interview he did shortly after the concert. I don't know why Billy Squier did not perform, he was a friend of Freddie and even wrote a song about Freddie's death "I have Watched You Fly". Maybe he did not fit into the bill:

akom at the fred tribute concert was meant to be sang by chris thompson but they said that they ran out of time mmm but if you look at the track list akom is half way down it, so my sources have told me that chris thompson had actually bottled it.

I still ask myself:
Why Monserrat Caballe didn´t appear?? not even a video message..
VERY strange (I cannot accept "agenda issues")..

The Scorpions were there in case everything went wrong and they needed a one hit wonder band to take everyone's mind from the seriousness of the night. Instead of a comedian they could laugh at these losers.
A Kind of Magic sung by who?

The good news is that nothing's changed.
The Scorpions are still a "spare" band.

Are you insane ? Scorpions - a one hit wonder band ? Losers ?

The thing is: if Paul Rodgers was Freddie's favourite singer, why didn't they invite him?
Oh, right... now that he's parted ways, they don't say that anymore...

I had something that I remembered from the tribute context, which I avoided posting... but reading Sebastian's post I couldn't help... It goes something like that:
"No, I don't think it's Queen. I think it's the 3 of us doing something with the Queen catalogue and with the help of some some friends"
(Brian in 1992 - it can be seen in some documentaries regarding the FM Tribute)
Funny thing that 13 years later and minus a band member... him and Roger are indeed Queen again...
PS: Certainly nothing against Paul Rodgers, he was easily the strongest link in the "Q+PR" trio...
PS2: Hope i haven't ruined my own post.. :))))
PS3: Hi Sebastian. Great to see that you brilliantly included some ideas we exchanged in some mails some time ago (song analysis and who-wrote-what) in your site... ;) (this AlTurHao persona belongs to Ricardo, from Portugal)
