Worth bearing in mind that the NME office environment at this time (c. 1976/77) was literally turned into some sort of  bunker decorated with barbed wire - I remember this from seeing a documentary about the magazine and its' writers a few years ago. Burchill and Stewart were practically ''dug-in" there writing such cynical pieces as this...
