Okay it's like this, the iMac does not come with terribly nice sound when you want to be recording and mixing music. They just aren't loud or bassy enough.
Suppose me and my pal are playing guitar, bass and drums through an audio host (MIDI drumkit with a nice library). What the hell kind of monitors should I have that we might be able to jam along and hear what we're doing?
Nice loud speakers, and cheap would be even better but one can't have everything these days.
Advice from decked-out audio people would be appreciated!

I hear good things about the Yamaha HS50M; they're not dirt cheap, but they're not extremely expensive either.
Those seem a good idea, I will have to keep it written down somewhere for future reference

Those are about the best you'll do without sinking down to the Behringer or Nady level.
