Hi,
Has anybody round here heard of a band called The Specials? They were amazing! (Well, I say "were", but they're still together and last year were doing a series of concerts around the country. When they're doing another round, I shall be first in line to order my tickets. Gotta see this.)
They did a lot of great music in the late 70's/early 80's. And that's why I like them. Old music rules, and The Specials revived ska for the "new" generation. I wasn't even born when they were most popular... well, I was born in 1981 which was the year they split up but that year they pulled out the classic Ghost Town record, 15 days after I was born! (It came out on June 20, 1981.)
Here are some top Specials songs that you could look up, and the years they came out:
1. Rat Race (1980)
2. Too Much Too Young (1980)
3. Gangsters (1979)
4. Ghost Town (1981)
5. A Message to You, Rudy (1979)
If you appreciate old music as much as I do, you will surely have heard about this band and if you're a fair bit older than me, perhaps you shall remember them when they were popular and could enlighten me a bit more on your personal Specials favourites and memories? I would have loved to see them play in concert in their heyday (1979/80) but sadly that was a bit before my time and even if I had been born then, I wouldn't have been able to go because... well, I don't think you need to be told! They are a great old band and some of their songs are very addictive. Must have some more of that now! ("Why must you record my phone calls... / Are you planning a bootleg LP... / you said you've been threatened by GANGSTERS... / now it's you that's threatening me!)
*Goes off to enjoy some more Specials songs, and perhaps a bit of QUEEN afterwards! I know where I am after all...*
Best regards,
