I don't know exactly how serious this question is, but are Just Keep Passing The Open Window and AKOM connected? I recently listened to JKPTOW and noticed the bass line was the exact same rhythm as the album version of AKOM. Does anyone know if they might've copied it from JKPTOW when they went to record it for the AKOM album? It's probably just a coincidence but there might be something to it (doubt it).

AFAIK, other than their similar basslines, they're not connected.
Windows was originally written by Fred for inclusion on a movie soundtrack they were working on at the time. The project got canned but the song still made it to The Works.
Coincidentally, Roger wrote Magic for Highlander but the original bassline was completely different. It wasn't until Freddie re-worked the arrangement that the new bassline made its way onto the track. Yes, it's clearly based on Windows' bassline but I'm guessing they re-recorded it for Magic.
Freddie must've liked the riff enough to use it again. Windows was one of the highlights on The Works and he knew this and probably wanted to use it on a hit single in the future.

Thanks for the insight. It was just a curious thing I noticed as I was listening to The Works the other day.

Reusing bass riffs is nothing new. Interesting the other bass riff in A Kind Of Magic makes a brief appearance in One Vision

I realize that, but it just seemed a bit too close to the other bassline

Also, the bass line in Magic is very similar to the bass in 'Heroes' by David Bowie..

On the other hand, the bassline from Ice Ice Baby is NOTHING like the one from Under Pressure.
The one from Under Pressure goes "bum bum bum ba-ba bum bum, bum bum bum ba-ba bum bum" but the one from Ice Ice Baby goes "bum bum bum ba-ba bum bum, BA-bum bum bum ba-ba bum bum".

If you look at the hand written lyrics to One Vision in the Photobook edition of Absolute Greatest they look more like the lyrics to A Kind of Magic.

Yeah, my theory about Magic lyrics is that Roger was pissed that Freddie changed his One Vision lyrics that he went ahead and used them again. As it turned out, they seemed to perfectly match the "There can be only One" theme of Highlander (One dream/One goal/One heart/One soul).

The fact that the lyrics matched is also a probable reason that Magic was the main credits song.

I must add it's call Keep Passing The Open Windows not Just Keep Passin The Open Windows. It's Like calling A Kind Of Magic, It's A Kind Of Magic or We Will Rock You, We Will We Will Rock You. That really grinds my gears. [/img]

Quoting the title of that Metallica's song, 'You Know It's Sad But True'. It was released the same year as 'Don't Take Offence At My Innuendo', 'You're Rushing Headlong' and 'Forever My Bijou'.

I know that it's full title. In case you idn't see the "..." at the beginning of the name of the topic.
