1993's halftime show was and will always be my favorite.

The MJ show comes in at 2nd for me. I did not enjoy any other show (so far) more than the one by Prince. Simply awesome. I'm sure Queen + Freddie Mercury would have stolen the show forever if they had played.

For next year's they should try to get Black Sabbath, considering that the organisers are hell bent on proving that the old school rocks harder than anyone else.

Did what? Embarass themselves?
Seriously, the performance wasn't bad, but it wasn't that great either.
Search for performances of The Who from the 1970s on You Tube, and what they did at the Super Bowl doesn't even come close to being as good as they used to be.

...but hey, at least it wasn't another yawn fest with Tom Petty.

Oh, dear. I didn't realize that the superbowl was supposed to encompass, and surpass the Who's entire career.

I GUESS THEY DIDN'T DO IT

HOW FUCKING DARE THEY

(shrug)  Christ o mighty.  Let's have a "Where Are They Now" in a few decades time and see how many of us are doing serviceable versions of the songs we were singing in our 20's and 30's ....

I say this as a massive admirer of The Who, young and old ...  I see your point.

However, my feeling is that the halftime show can go to a younger act when a younger act earns it!

i think there are some who have earned it......give em a chance!!!
i'd love to see Kings of Leon or the Killers absolutely blast their way thru that 12-minute gig

my own top choices (old and newer) who should get the gig are:-

Deep Purple (with Richie and Coverdale) (or reform Rainbow if Ritchie will leave the folklore stuff alone and do some rock)
Rush
Kings of Leon
Killers
Boston
Foo Fighters
Green Day
Sammy Hagar with Ronnie Montrose(could be good)
Skynyrd
David Gilmour

Oh, Brenski, you really shot my wheels of there.  Lynyrd Skynyrd?  You have got to be kiding me.

Deep Purple -  Cool!!!  No one will even know who they are!!!!
Rush - They only get 7 minutes to setup / tear down the drum set.  Forget it.
Kings of Leon - I'd go for that
Killers - About to break up.  They can't stand each other.  They are where Queen were in '84.
Boston - You mean Tom Scholtz and some guys he knows?  Brad and Fran are gone.
Foo Fighters - Definitely
Green Day - hmmmm......
Sammy Hagar with Ronnie Montrose(could be good) - No, it couldn't
Skynyrd - No Lynyrd Skynyrd fan is going to pay $100 for parking.  They can't and they won't.
David Gilmour - See my "Deep Purple" and "Boston" comments.

i was just basing my choices on bands i'd liek to see do it....
any band can do a live-aid 15-minute medley if they have to....it's not difficult...even for rush

as for the actual choices.....you edited my list slightly
i said a blackmore/coverdale purple....they were bigger in america than the gillain/blackmore lineup
skynyrd would be fun
gilmour would be great musically...you basically get comfortably numb + one other song
killers ars still capable of patching things up...loads of other bands have
hagar/montrose.....again - america would love them
and as for green day...they are currently the undisputed the kings of the fifteen minute medley --american idiot and 21st century breakdown are all the prrof you need
